Has the recruiting picture finally been painted?

Disclaimer: Lets try to keep this focused on recruiting and not bashing Tubby.

If you look back at the last 10 years at UK or under Tubby's recruiting here is what you will find:

- NO lottery picks

- 2 NBA first round draft picks in 10 years.

Rick Pitino could have housed an entire NBA team practically with his former players over the last 10 years.

The problems at UK are not new. This picture has slowly been painted and its finally becoming clear, at least to me.

Dick Vitate once said "You need two NBA players to win a championship."

Brandan Wright: UNC stand out freshman, from Nashville TN, Mcdonalds AA. (He was escorted to the UL/UK football game by Tayshaun Prince for his visit). "I grew up loving UK, I always thought I would have played for UK. "But there slow style, grind it out offense wasn't for me."

Why does Tubby not look at the feedback from all of the recruits he has lost? Why doesn't he send out surveys to all of them? Its the same thing over and over, boring offense, not enough running, low scoring.. I just don't get it. Why is he so stubborn to make changes and play some fun offense?

I feel like I am watching "Glory Road" when Bobby Jo told coach Haskins.. "LET US PLAY OUR GAME."

UK's style of offense is the primary reason I no longer watch many of their games. This is not a slam on Tubby, but I just prefer a faster paced tempo to the game.

IF recruits are actually staying away from UK because of the style of offense that Tubby embraces, then that's a problem that may not be soon rectified.

Being a MCD AA or Lottery Pick is not the most important thing. Players need to fit into a system. Fitch, Daniels, Hawkins, Estill. Tubbys' best overall class in my opinion.

I agree with you to an extent. You ABSOULTELY need role players in ANY sport but you saw the results of the class. We have too many role players and not enough studs.

Thank God you made this about recruiting and not bashing Tubby, SA. ;) :bunny:

I'm trying... I realize Tubby would be loved on Opera... but man we need a fix in our recruiting.

Just can't see Tubby singing for some reason. :p

Recruiting is a problem... This is not new news.

Look at Kansas State next year. They have a top 10 class right now. Why? Because big men like to play for Huggy Bear. They wouldn't even know Kansas State existed until Huggy got to town.

I know you are new around here but if GT see's this. You just made an enemy for life!

because he is one heck of a coach and knows what to do to win and how to recruit....

Well we all know recruiting needs to get better, and if anyone disagrees then they are watching a different team. However recruiting hasn't always been bad under Tubby the whole time like people try to make it seem. He has really only had two classes that were just terrible, it just so happened it came within 2 years of each other, so it put the classes together on the same team. Which in turn makes us lose to teams who do have athletes like a Kansas...

Why is it that Huggins can get big men then? He doesn't coach a fast paced game either.. Both he and Tubby are grind it out guys. Big men should be lining up to play for Tubby, not the surplus of guards he usually finds himself with. It doesn't fit.

Moving on... I'm done thinking for the night.

Uk looked best tonight when they were playing a more uptempo type game. When they settled down, that's when things went south.

As far as recruiting goes, you have to cater your offense to the type of players you have. Huggins always had athletic players, so he played an uptempo offense and in your face defense.

Look at the top teams in the country and they are all fast paced teams. This is why they get the top recruits. That's exciting for players, coming in knowing they get to play their own style.

Face it guys...Athleticism is beating out hard work these days IN THE COLLEGE GAME.
