Role Players

Featured Replies

Every team needs players that work hard, understand, and ACCEPT their roles as role players. We always here about the star players putting up big numbers for their ball clubs because they steal the headlines in the paper.

Let us all take this opportunity to give a shout out to all those under appreciated "role players" who have done their part in making you team what they are.

Off the top of my head....

CovCath- Brandon Brown

Holmes- Josh Nelson

Scott County- Jimmy Warren

Simon Kenton: Justin Kohrs

Mason Co - Brad Pawsatt

Clark Co - Robelle Rogers

Brossart - Bryan Niemeyer

Bryan's role was to be a battleship, and he lived up to that billing on many occasions.

Our (Brossart's) true "role players" were (in no particular order) Matt Lloyd, great intensive hard-nosed defensive player and superb ball-handler. Made good thing happen when he was in the game - spelled Josh Kidney.

Kyle Kramer - Professional catylist. Transitioned the ball to the battleships, an played tremendous defense, led the team (tied with Jimmy Uebel) for most steals.

Luke Rebholz - Our zone buster - when we needed a big bucket or if the offense was sputtering, Luke would deliver when needed. Also, numerous key rebound/stickbacks throughout the season.

On Clark Co I will add Evan Bennett. Jr coming off the bench. He knows his role is to give added scoring power from the 3 and best on team at FT.

Role players? I thought most all players were role players. Each have different roles ,some are shooters, others are playmakers that can handle the ball and pass , some are rebounders, some are excellent defensive players, some are shot blockers , some are excellent free throw shooters and some just make things happen.

Scott HS

Kenny Felts....undersized post defender who played great defense and rebounded well against taller opponents.

Ryne Smith....good defender on the perimeter and knocked down open shots. Might have exceeded the "role player" definition with how well he played down the stretch.

Every team has star players though. For example Holmes has Rice, Hill, Jefferson and Henderson. All 4 have game breaker potential. Take one away and they struggle.

A role player would be someone who doen't necissarily score all the points, but rather is quiet but efficient every game.

Holmes- Nelson- quiet down low but will get 10 points every game and do an outstnading job rebounding.

Avery- Take Jefferson out of the game and you have someone who can come in and distribute the ball and still get the job done

Clark- great defender against big men. Won't score as much but knows his role in frustrating the opposing team's big man with his physical defense

Role players are someone who do the dirty work while others get the fame in scoring all the points.

Excellent Post! The sooner a coach gets this idea sold to his team, the quicker his team wins consistently. A player who can or will do "all of the above" is a rare commodity.

Great Point, but there are some teams who have complete players who can or will do all of the above.

Who are they, I'll be watching them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those are the kids we get the privilege of following and watching at the next level or levels. They are still a role player. Their role: LEADER.

I totally agree with you. :thumb:

I agree, he gave you a 115% everytime on the floor, just seems to have a nose for the ball, battled for every loose ball, can not say enought about him.
