But teams should be playing their best basketball at this time of the season and their conference slate should have prepared them for tourney time. We all agreed at the end of last season the SEC was wildly underrated because of its strong showing in the tournament. We almost annually discover the Big 10 is overrated when it steps on the national stage. I think a lot is proved in March as to the strength of these conferences.

WVU and Syracuse left out and UL finished #2 and got a 6 seed. The McNeal injury doomed Marquette with an 8 and Nova got a 9 seed. And despite all that there are already two Big East teams in the Sweet 16. If the SEC only gets a matching 2 playing next weekend are they overrated???

How quickly you forget that only 2 SEC teams showed up in the tournament last year. I said it last year and I'll say it againg this year. And likely next year and the year after that. Using the tournament to judge a conference over a full season is stupid and very short sighted...

It may be, but it's the only tangible evidence we have to go on. We can compare Conference RPI, look at teams top to bottom and decide who we think is best, but a tournament helps us see it unfold.

March 19, 200719 yr SEC What is the SEC's record in the tourney? They have three teams in the sweet sixteen and two of those had to beat higher seeded teams to get there. Are there any conferences with better records?:confused:
March 19, 200719 yr IMO the most overrated conference this year was the Mid-South Conference in the NAIA tournament. Georgetown College, Cumberland, and Lambuth all lost in the first round and Campbellsville lost in the 2nd round. Very disapointing for this NAIA power conference who usually has a team making it to the final four at least.
