Scott County 74 Lexington Catholic 48

Featured Replies

What is the name of #2 from Scott co, he was a real player, played good D, had alteast four 3's and was rly aggresive.

Matt Walls is a senior and has been recruited by EKU, Miami of Ohio, and Mississippi State among others. Tubby has asked Walls to be a perferred walk-on at UK. His play reminds me of Steve Alford back in the 80s at Indiana University.

The entire EKU coaching staff was on hand today (although the game was in Richmond) and I saw the head coach have a chat with Walls after the game. I think he would be a good fit at Eastern.

This was a pretty poor game all around. I hadn't seen Scott County this year and I'm not judging on one game, but they weren't very impressive today. Mackey was a non-factor. Walls was very good and should probably get even more looks. I'm not sure about the center #42, but his presence on defense was very intimidating to Catholic.

As for Lexington Catholic, I wasn't really prepared to see such a poor team. They had two nice players but really had nothing to go with it. The Knights did a nice job of running their offense in the first quarter (that was the only way they could have won), but it seemed like they got away from it completely in the second half.

Lex Cath had a lot to do with SC not looking sharp, except in the 3rd quarter. Lex Cath plays very rough and physical. I don't think any team could beat Scott County the way they played in the 3rd.

Just out of curiosity gchs, what teams do impress you this year?

WOW about sums it up--Impressive victory against a fine team. They'll be tough to handle!!

EKU, especially with the recent success of 2 NCAA tourneys in 3 years, would be a great fit for Walls. He could come to EKU and be a starter in a year or two, or go to UK and ride the bench while dealing with all the turmoil. I really hope he ends up at Eastern.

He might even start by Christmas his freshman year at EKU. I think he would be a star in the OVC.

Are college coaches permitted to "chat" with potential recruits right now? I know there are periods of time thru the course of the year that coaches can interact with recruits, and there are times that it is off-limits to do so. Just not clear on when those "times" are. Anybody out there with the facts?

According to the NCAA website. Oct 5- March 28 is the evaluation period. High School basketball players can only be contacted at school, practice, or games. I would guess this means no phone calls, text messages, or visits outside of games, practices, or school.

Yea looks like Scott Co is gonna roll in this tourney

WOW after a win like that and Scott County isn't impressive. Maybe compared to college teams but as far as high school goes they looked pretty impressive to me. Maybe I just dont know what the standard of impressive is.

Somewhat agreed. Either way both not right on Mackey and Corven.

Good luck to Sc on the rest of the way.

Not to justify it...the Corvin elbow was in RETALIATION to the "pile driver" elbow he took in the back while they were chasing the loose ball. The player thought it was Warren who threw the first elbow.

Stats:

Scott County

Walls - 7/11 FG, 5/9 3FG, 22pts 7rbs, 7asst

Portwood 8pts 6rbs

Mackey 5/12 FG, 12pts, 4rbs

Hundley 5/10 FG 12pts, 7rbs

Lee 6/13 FG 12pts, 8rbs, 5blocks

Team -

28/60 FG = 47%

7/20 3fG = 35%

11/19 FT = 58%

50 Total Rebounds (16 Offensive)

18 Assists, 18 Turnovers

Lexington Catholic

Newton 3/9 FG, 11pts, 3rbs

Stewart 7/26 FG, 1/7 3fG, 19pts 12 rbs

Novosel 2/5FG, 8pts, 5rbs

Team

16/69FG = 23%

4/27 3FG = 15%

12/18 FT = 67%

Observations

1. Scott Co was the more aggressive team today.

2. Hundley and Lee did a GREAT job defending Novosel and holding him to only 5 shot attempts!

3. Jimmy Warren put together another great game - getting every loose ball. LC changed who would bring the ball up the floor to make sure it was not who Warren was guarding.

4. Scott Co. came out of the half time locker room ready to play - out scoring Lex Cath 25-10 in the third quarter.

5. Mackey didn't score as much as normal, but he made a lot of correct decisions finding the right people in the right places on the court to help SC win... He also spent a lot of the game in foul trouble.

6. Taylor Stewart had a really nice block on Mackey - they were both well above the rim.

7. The double technical was the right call. Corvin isn't in the game for his great basketball ability - he's the hustle/garbage man for Catholic. He dove hard - Mackey has to realize that he's not as expendable as some who might try to get him to retalliate. I'm glad the whole incident was over quickly and the game went on... There were more than just Mackey and Corvin pushing and pulling other players.

8. Scott County's fan base is awesome - it was a sea of red today.

The NCAA rules say that a coach may "bump" into a player after a game or practice during this time. A bump is usually defined as, hello nice game etc. It can't be a long conversation.

Lex Cath had a lot to do with SC not looking sharp, except in the 3rd quarter. Lex Cath plays very rough and physical. I don't think any team could beat Scott County the way they played in the 3rd.

I think you might have me wrong. I didn't think Scott County was bad, they just didn't perform as well as I expected them to. As for Catholic, I grew up in a time period where Catholic was the premier program in the state. Their program has slipped and its evident. That doesn't mean their bad, they just aren't anywhere near where they were for so long.

As for teams I've been impressed by, in no particular order (and in no means all of them):

Ballard

Male (prior to the injury to the big man)

Covington Catholic

Warren Central

Mason County (at times)
