Rudy, divorce & abortion?

Featured Replies

I would like to hear from some sensible and open-minded republicans on Rudy's stance on abortion, and his 2 or 3 divorces? Wouldn't this hurt him big time with those on the far right and with evangelicals? I haven't checked into it, but is he all out in favor for abortion? Or does he view it as a choice but wishes everyone would choice life? (Being a democrat I see the latter point but don't agree with it) Wil it hurt a little that Rudy's own son said he will not help his father run? What's behind that?

I would think the republicans would go with McCain to keep the far right and evangelicals?

In the words of Rudy's son: "I got my values from my mother."

Even with his stance on abortion (which is not as liberal as some are painting) he is still IMVHO a better option for America then the other side. I think most conservatives will see that. Remember conservative icon Regan was divorced.

Rudy's past views on the issues:

Pro-choice; no ban on partial-birth abortions. (Dec 1999)

Opposed Pres. Bush's ban on gay marriage. (Jan 2007)

Pro gay rights. (Jul 2006)

Anti-Catholic art is disgusting; appoints decency council. (Feb 2001)

No taxpayer dollars for offensive art. (Oct 1999)

Extended all city benefits to same-sex couples. (May 1998)

Dismantled affirmative action program for NYC contracts. (Mar 1997)

Supports affirmative action. (Apr 1989)

Prefers death penalty for 9/11 conspirators. (May 2006)

Drug policy should be an integral part of foreign policy. (Sep 1997)

Supports education vouchers and supports using the word vouchers. (Oct 2002)

Open schools on weekends for remedial catch-up. (Jan 2001)

Improve schools by taking on the unions & special interests. (Jan 2000)

Opposes prayer in school. (Apr 1989)

Privatize failing schools. (Jan 2000)

Charter Schools create competition. (Jan 2000)

Open Strategic Petroleum Reserve to battle high oil prices. (Feb 2000)

All gun owners should pass written test. (Mar 2000)

Democrats don't support military the way Republicans do. (Nov 2006)

Fervently supported reauthorization of the Patriot Act. (Dec 2005)

Supports Senate guest worker plan & path to citizenship. (Nov 2006)

No privacy concerns with DNA-like fingerprinting. (Jan 2000)

Withdrawal from Iraq encourages future terror attacks. (Nov 2006)

Removing Saddam needed to be accomplished. (Aug 2004)

I believe conservatives will find it hard to vote for Rudi. However, I believe they will find it even harder to vote for McCain. Most conservatives respect Rudi even though they might disagree with him because they know where he stands. In general, McCain is more conservative than Rudi but he has been unpredictable on a number of issues important to conservatives. Conservatives find McCain's unpredictability more frustrating than Rudi's liberal stances and that's why they'll vote for Rudi over McCain.

I am somewhat suprised at an article I read in the Cincinnati Post today.

Seems like the Firefighters in New York are not backing Rudy. Could be a union thing, but their reason is for how he handled the clean up after 9-11.

They were still in recovery stage or at least looking to identify remains when Rudy moved to " schoop and dump" to speed up the process. I have no opinion on who was right or who was wrong. I was just under the impression that Rudy was a hero to all New Yorkers because of the 9-11 aftermath.

Rudy has skeletons, and I think a lot of America can find that they share some life situations with him...that makes him much more attractive to the public, that he is a 'real' person.

On occasion, you must vote for the lesser of the evils. It does no good to hold to your narrow, rightwing philosophy, vote against a moderate Republican, and end up with a wild-eyed liberal.

All of these narrow-minded conservatives better wake up. Their bullheadedness could "win" their perceived battle but they will surely lose the war.

Romney cannot win. Gingrich's chances are nil. The other conservatives who have been mentioned are about as electable as would be "Brother" Jerry Falwell.

Social conservatives better enter the real world. It is better to win 60% than to lose 100%.

You are entitled to your opinion. But I answer to a higher authority. My job is to vote according to the dictates of scripture. I won't be voting for Rudi or anyone else who is pro-abortion. Period. My conscience will be clear. It is in the Lord's hands anyway . . . perhaps He is turning us over because we have so long ingnored His Word just to get a win.

It's another example of a union playing politics against the wishes of its members. He still has high support among the rank and file members.

You'll forgive me if I believe that the "hey, we all have skeletons" mindset is only applicable to one side of the aisle. Ol' Bill was obviously "real" by your definition.

Are you saying you will not exercise your right to vote should both candidates be pro-choice?

Just when did the Lord make all of this clear to you and whose interpretation of "His Word" are you relying upon? As to the Lord "turning us over ...", could it be that , since we allegedly have all of this free will, He is, as is usually the case, just staying out of it and letting us fend for ourselves?

I always worry about those who seem to think they have a direct pipeline to The Almighty. It is kind of like those thieves on television who tell us that, if we will pledge $1,000 to their "work" (plant that seed), we will be overwhelmed with material blessings.

I say, take the lesser of the evils.

My "pipeline" is the Bible. The inspired Word of God. I take the scriptures for what they say . . . and it says abortion is murder, and homosexuality is an abomination. I will not vote for a person who thinks murdering the unborn or having sexual relationships with the same sex is okay. It simply is not! Those that feel that these things are okay are not fit for office. The Republican party better start thinking about this when they submit their nomination. They cannot win without the support of us so-called "right-wing religious fanatics."

Now, as far as the tele-evangelists go . . . they are not going by scripture . . . they are charlatans trying to prey on poor ignorant people. I am not a charlatan. You better worry---- but not about folks like me ---you better worry about yourself and others who apparently see nothing wrong with the murdering of innocent babies and homosexuality. However, I am not your judge, God is. I will pray for you.

All of this said, I do not hate Guiliani, I am told to hate the sin but love the sinner. I will pray for him also.

Are you saying you will not exercise your right to vote should both candidates be pro-choice?

If my choices are between pro-abortion only candidates then I will honor the Lord and not vote. If there is a third party candidate who is pro-life I will vote for them. I simply cannot vote for someone who supports the murder of the unborn. Sorry.
