Truthfully I feel that Jim Hicks might be one of the top 3 coaches in the region and when it comes to game planning he is #1. If he is given 1 team to focus on for a tourny more than often his team gets the job done.

 

 

Perfect example was the 04 finals. Had it not been for an ill-advised late shot by a Cougar, it could have easily been a Boone-Conner final instead of Boone-CCH.

He's a very good coach, but he needs to learn to keep his temper in check. He was very close to a T with just over a minute left in the game last night. I admire the intensity, but he is very quick to lose his cool...

Could it have been that his intensity with the refs got the blocking call for his PG that won them the game? There's a fine line between genius and insanity:lol:

As I said, I'm a homer. This is probably at least 4 years now.

Tough loss for the Raiders. They had a four point lead under 4 minutes to go and had four straight turnovers. Crews played a tremendous game to beat the Raiders. Similar thing happened two years ago when Lafollette plays a career game against the Raiders and they beat them in a close game. Coach Hicks definitely has proved himself as a good post season coach. The Raiders shot themselves in the foot late when they had a tie game, with the ball and then shoot a three with about 25 seconds left. In that situation, wouldn't it be wise to hold the ball for the last shot--instead of shooting a three?? The ball is rebounded by Conner and Nelson reaches in and fouls- his fifth! Conner gets both free throws to go up two. Kids will be kids! Good luck to the Raiders in the future. The future is very bright and they should be much better next season without some of the distractions of the current team. Congrats to coach Hicks. I have always been a fan of his.

Coach Hicks seems to have Conner in the regional tournament every year. Way to go Cougars!

 

By my count, has Conner been to six of the last eight regionals?

 

As an aside, Boone County has only been to the regional twice in the last 10 years.

I know I'm a homer but I'll continue to say it. Jimmy (and you can call him that when you're 9 years older than he is) Hicks can coach. His teams are always ready by tourney time.

 

Must be all of that Bill Warfield influence.

 

 

I too a homer think that Jimmy can coach and was a great player as well. Graduated just before him from CHS loved to watch him play!

I think sometimes that he was influence by Mr Warfield's temper too!!!

He was a hard nosed player, looks like it translates well as a coach. His teams haven't posted great records but they seem to make it to the final 8 every season.
