If Patterson comes and is phenomenal, I'll give all the credit in the world to Tubby for landing a great player. If he comes and stinks, I'll give Tubby some grief for being a poor evaluator of talent. If he doesn't come at all then I'll give him grief for being unable to recruit the kids HE chooses to recruit. So there are no variables involved? Its just cut and dry. This or that. Tubby has landed All Americans and been criticized for it. Tubby is not perfect, I know that. But he is being held to a standard that nobody could live up to. Two subpar years do not make him a worse or better coach than he was three years ago when he was national coach of the year. It is the same thing that drove Joe B. Hall into banking and out of coaching. Bottom line is Joe B. was not Adolph Rupp and Tubby Smith is not Rick Pitino. That is as cut and dried as it gets.

Criticism of Tubby's last two years is valid. I am as unhappy as anyone with the recent recruiting mishaps that have led to the current mediocre two year stretch. To go a step further, as ardent a Tubby supporter as I have been the past two years, if he remains at UK (which he probably will), and doesn't land Patterson and Lucas, I'll be ready for him to go. My problem with Tubby bashers (or whatever) is the countless, ridiculous accusations/assumptions/observations such as: -Winning a championship w/ Pitino's players (my favorite) -Silly comparisons to Billy Donovan when Tubby owned him up until last year -Final Fours are easy to reach -They play a boring style (even though if it's played right, it wins) -he didn't recruit Lofton (guess what? nobody else did either) When UK gets a new coach, and that coach doesn't equal UK's "standards" set from the mid 90's (which NO ONE will), what next? -Winning a championship w/ Pitino's players (my favorite) -Silly comparisons to Billy Donovan when Tubby owned him up until last year -Final Fours are easy to reach -They play a boring style (even though if it's played right, it wins) -he didn't recruit Lofton (guess what? nobody else did either) I don't say that. I compare Tubby to all coaches, not just Billy Donavan and I think that's fair. I don't say that. It is boring and it cost us Branden Wright, and Tubby himself said he was going to change it and didn't. Again I understand why Loften was not offered a scholly. However, everything I say is "repeated" and "old" and I'm a TBer because I complain about recruiting and the obvious lack of talent Tubby has brought in over the years.

Why not? Roy Williams and Coach K live up to it. I'm personally not looking for national championships every year, but final fours should be reachable every now and again. He hasn't consistently landed all americans and IMO that is a problem.
March 2, 200719 yr Rondo was forced to play slow tempo basketball. All his athletic ability that made him better was taken away. Crawford leaving as a freshman would have wiped out 2 years of eligibility so that's why he didn't leave. Plus when he returned he started getting more minutes. Tubby found a fax to keep Morris around. What did Rondo ever cry about? I don't recall him complaining ever. I recall Tubby complaining about him. Patterson is a physical presence right now. He might not be a great player at first, but he's athletically gifted and has been labeled as a hard worker. I haven't bashed Tubby for recruiting top 20 players ever. That would be absurd. IMO the people who complain about the juniors are absurd because if we had 4 classes like that we'd be very good. If Crawford plays bad we have a freshman to take his place instead of another AA. If Morris gets lazy or gets in foul trouble we have Woopty Woo. We just don't have the talent and it's not because of the junior class. Look at the bottom of the bench and tell me what they will ever give the program. They did have a fax to get Morris back. But the only thing that kept him hear is nobody in the NBA wanted him. I'm not saying the junior class is not talented. They are. But they are only interested in promoting themselves to get to the next level. The ironic thing about that is they would have done a much better job of self promotion had they worked for the betterment of the team.

Him and Sparks were just as much responsible for last year's season as Tubby or anyone else involved in the program. BTW, Brandon Wright is the only player that has said he did not come to UK because of playing style. That's only one player. At least that's the arguement I get when I mention how well Hayes, Bogans, and Prince turned out.

Coach K built the program at Duke and would be worshipped there reagaurdless of the circumstances. Roy Williams walked into a situation where he had always wanted to be and they had always wanted him after Dean Smith retired. until a couple of years ago had never won a big game. Neither one has had to follow an Icon of their programs and put up with the fact that no matter what they did it would never be good enough.

Rondo wouldn't/couldn't shoot it and the center in the lane took away all of the cuts and drives to the basket. Sophomore class is disappointing. Senior class was recruited as role players to fill in between what was supposed to be two outstanding classes. Both of those classes were disappointments. Freshmen class has potential to be outstanding. They seem to already work harder than the junior class. My problem with the junior class is how they disappear in big games and at big times of games.

He's done a lot that made me happy. Right now though he's seemed to lose touch with the kids and doesn't seem to be willing to make changes with things that are not going right. If Coach K or Roy Williams stopped recruiting McDonald's All Americans there would be problems in NC for both coaches.

Rondo was still athletic, but in a half court it was hard for him to use because of his lack of a shot. I have the same issues with the Junior class, but if we had 4 classes like that I think we'd be a lot better off.
