March 1, 200719 yr Just because he may not get drafted doesn't mean he won't play in the NBA. If he left after this year, no way would he make it, but with another year under his belt I say he's a 2nd round pick. I doubt Joe Crawford will ever make any kind of impact in the NBA. I doubt he will play more than 2 years.
March 1, 200719 yr Neither played long. Walsh : 2 games last year , 11 minutes this year Roberson: 36 games in 2 years

March 2, 200719 yr When people are "supposed" to go pro and they do you did your job. When you don't recruit pro talent (which is my biggest knock on Tubby) you don't send kids to the pros. If coaches aren't important (like you make them out to be) then why not just let the kids coach themselves. There are reasons certain coaches win and others lose. There are reasons Tubby has lost ten games each of the last few year and it's basically about recruiting talent. I completely agree with you. Tubby wants to recruit role players, and does not put enough effort into recruiting the high profile players. It seems nearly every player Tubby recruits is a "project". I am tired of all the projects, lets get some players that are ready to play straight out of High School.

You just had three McDonalds All Americans that have nearly brought the whole program down with them. Tubby was criticized for recruiting head case all americans (Carruth for example), then went the other way and recruited kids that may not have been as highly rated but were character kids (Hayes and Daniels) and he was criticized for that as well. Now we have the current group all americans minus Rondo followed by some more role players. The biggest problem I have with Tubby is that I think he listens to his critics too much.

Tubby's best teams were with burger boys Bogans and Prince. The Hayes/Fitch/Daniels team was pretty good but I don't ever recall thinking they could win it all. The bold staement is flat crazy. The Juniors and freshman are the only reason KY is 500. The TERRIBLE TERRIBLE sophomores and PITIFUL PITIFUL seniors hold KY back, not the juniors. Mix in some talent with that junior class and we'd have a contender. Imagine if the junior class was as bad as the other 2. KY would have finished below 500. We have 2 McDonald's All Americans right now and if we had 7 or 8 we'd be better.

Morris and Crawford both have thought they should be in the NBA since they signed their LOI and have played a majority of the time like they didn't want to be here. Bradley is the only one with any heart and he plays about as smart as a kid in elementary school. The current group of McDonalds All Americans are responsible for most of the turmoil of the past three years. One thing I do agree with you about is the freshman group. Them I really like. For the seniors. They were all role players from the begining. They play hard and they play with heart. Back to the original topic of this thread. I hope Lucas and espeacially Patterson live up to their billing. If they come here and are not as good as advertised the TBers will turn around and blame Tubby for recruiting them as well.

If they come to KY and fail/underachieve under Tubby I'll add them to my list. Ky's best 2 players are Morris and Crawford. It's not that they are great, it's just that we don't have a lot of talent compared to the best teams in the country. Rondo wasn't a cancer in my book. He was loved by the Oak Hill coaches, played hard, led the team in most stats, and was told "we will run" when he was recruited. Then it didn't happen. He was handcuffed then made out to be a scape goat. If Morris and Crawford had succeeded in running away from Tubby then we'd be terrible, but he lied to keep one and basically forced the other to stay. Once they get to Lexington they can't leave fast enough and it hasn't been just a few guys, it's been enough to address that it is a major concern for the program.

Rondo could dominate in high school because of his athleticism. He couldn't in college and had no outside shot to keep people honest. When things got tough he was nothing but a crybaby. Morris was forced to stay because nobody in the NBA wanted him. Crawford was lied to. He lied to himself. He believed he should be the showcase whereever he was. Another example of ego overshadowing the good of the team. I am on record saying Patterson is not that good. I don't think he will be the star everyone wants to believe. But if Tubby doesn't land him he will be bashed for it. If he does and Patterson turns out to be the kind of player that I think he will be, Tubby will be bashed for that too. Its a no win situation.

HE is the one that has recruited Patterson hard. Therefore HE is responsible for not being able to recruit if Patterson goes elsewhere OR being a poor judge of talent if he's not that good. Tubby didn't start recruiting him because we all told him to. He went after him on his own. Therefore the situation IS his fault if it doesn't work out. Why is this so hard to understand??

Why is it so hard to be reasonable??? Oh yeah, its just easier to Tubby. This is hardballs post on another thread. It sums it up pretty well. Criticism of Tubby's last two years is valid. I am as unhappy as anyone with the recent recruiting mishaps that have led to the current mediocre two year stretch. To go a step further, as ardent a Tubby supporter as I have been the past two years, if he remains at UK (which he probably will), and doesn't land Patterson and Lucas, I'll be ready for him to go. My problem with Tubby bashers (or whatever) is the countless, ridiculous accusations/assumptions/observations such as: -Winning a championship w/ Pitino's players (my favorite) -Silly comparisons to Billy Donovan when Tubby owned him up until last year -Final Fours are easy to reach -They play a boring style (even though if it's played right, it wins) -he didn't recruit Lofton (guess what? nobody else did either) When UK gets a new coach, and that coach doesn't equal UK's "standards" set from the mid 90's (which NO ONE will), what next?
March 2, 200719 yr Why is it so hard to be reasonable??? Why is it unreasonable to hold Tubby accountable for his recruiting? If Patterson comes and is phenomenal, I'll give all the credit in the world to Tubby for landing a great player. If he comes and stinks, I'll give Tubby some grief for being a poor evaluator of talent. If he doesn't come at all then I'll give him grief for being unable to recruit the kids HE chooses to recruit.

All his athletic ability that made him better was taken away. Crawford leaving as a freshman would have wiped out 2 years of eligibility so that's why he didn't leave. Plus when he returned he started getting more minutes. Tubby found a fax to keep Morris around. What did Rondo ever cry about? I don't recall him complaining ever. I recall Tubby complaining about him. Patterson is a physical presence right now. He might not be a great player at first, but he's athletically gifted and has been labeled as a hard worker. I haven't bashed Tubby for recruiting top 20 players ever. That would be absurd. IMO the people who complain about the juniors are absurd because if we had 4 classes like that we'd be very good. If Crawford plays bad we have a freshman to take his place instead of another AA. If Morris gets lazy or gets in foul trouble we have Woopty Woo. We just don't have the talent and it's not because of the junior class. Look at the bottom of the bench and tell me what they will ever give the program.
