Right now you can make an argument for a lot of coaches, Biggs has got people excited about basketball again, Fraley has made Rose Hill a factor again, Mays won the all a, Cooksey has probally taken his team farther than

anyone else, Dodd is undefeated in the region, and despite many predictions of the opposite, has continued to beat Elliot and Ashland, but I think the winner should be whoever takes their team to Rupp- and wins at Rupp

That should be the obvious choice when its time to vote.

(or does the voting take place before the regionals?)

If you research my prior posts a little, you will find that I certainly expected Ashland to win the Rose Hill game. I also said the game would only produce a large financial windfall for Ashland, nothing but a loss for Rose Hill, and enhance the "strained relationship" between the two schools. If you review the events and the results, you will find that I was correct on all counts.

As I recall, the preseason predictions placed Ashland at second or third in the region. At present, they are probably third. They have won most of the games they should have won and lost almost all of the games they should have lost. No real surprises at all.

 

If accomplishing about what was expected makes you coach of the year, then I suppose Biggs is a good candidate.

Alot of people did not expect Ashland to be 3rd in the region. Mostly some of the Tomcat diehards. I think Biggs has done the most with the amount of talent he has.

 

Fraley has "the two best players in the region". He shouldn't have to do much coaching.

Wilcox, started since he was a sophmore "Work Horse" and the rest of the team is pretty good players.

 

Now, if Coach Biggs can play the same schedule next year with the same success. He should get coach of the year.

As I posted earlier in the thread. McDavid and Thomas are the stars. Bonner, Wilcox and Coleman are good role players. There is not much depth behind them. I think he has gotten the most out of the talent he has available.

I can't disagree with this analysis. It seems that Ashland's talent level- everything from "great" to nonexistent- depends on the theme of each post. A team that returns three highly rated senior starters is not without a firm foundation. All in all, they have neither overachieved nor underachieved.

 

Of course, as Gatorlover said, next year could be different.

I think you could put any number of them in a hat and not be wrong.

 

I'm not surprised Ashland is at the top of the 16th. As I have said several times, they always end up near the top at the end of the year. Biggs has done a great job, Mays has done a wonderful job with that young team.

 

Fraley and Dodd, the list goes on. I'm a Royals fan in the 16th, but very impressed with the coaches in that part of the state.

Most teams go through up and down cycles. Elliott Co and Rose Hill have alot of good young talent and should be very good in the next few years to come.

 

 

Russell loses alot of experience and talent. We will just have to wait and see what kind of talent they have coming up. Either way it should be interesting to watch.:thumb:
