Well, for starters, Mayfield has to come up with someone in the QB position, anybody know anything about what is going on at Mayfield with the QB replacement?

Replacing Adam Shelton at QB will be the big thing at Mayfield this year. Senior to be Logan Armstrong is said to be the one who will replace Adam. Logan is an outstanding athlete and a good QB but he doesn’t have the wheels that Adam had. led the team in tackles last year at linebacker. Freshman Luke Guhy might get a look at the QB spot as well.

Mayfield returns Andy Trevathean and Tyrese Murrell at halfback so the running game should be very good this year. On the offensive line Mayfield loses 6'4 285 pound Landon Heath but they will have plenty of experience coming back. The Cardinals will have to replace both wide receivers.

The defense should also be a strong point next year with the top three leaders in tackles coming back. Toward the end of the regular season Coach Lawson had some players who would platoon coming in every other series and that will be very helpful this upcoming football season.

Yes, Logan is apparently gonna be under center. I hope Coach Guhy's son gets some playing time this year. PT now will help him a lot these next two or three years. Logan is a senior I believe so Luke needs to be groomed a little. Both runningbacks, Trevarthan and Murrell, are capable of being feature backs. It seems they will carry the offense this year. Im not sure about Mayfield's returning lineman. BTW, are both the punter and kicker returning or did they graduate?? If they are come back that will be HUGE this year.......

The kicker and punter returns this year and this should be a strong point for the Cards...The kicker is capable of hitting from 50 out, but, is pretty automatic from inside of 40 and there punter averaged about 38 yds last year and his punts have good hang time...

The O-Line will be much improved or at least more experienced as all but Heath returns. He'll be hard to replace but Micah Jones younger brother is coming up and should be a good one...

The defense returns 3 lineman, 2 LBs and 2 DBs and have a very solid core of newcomers in the freshman and sophmore classes. They return there 3 leading tacklers and in addition to 7 starters, a couple of others who got significant playing time, so, they should be solid there...

The biggest question marks for this years team will be how Logan Armstrong does at the QB position and what factor that plays on the defensive end. If they opt to play him both ways, it's a risk and if they don't, they lose there best LB and defensive player. will be interesting to see how that plays out. The other question mark is at WR/TE and who to throw the ball to. I'm sure they have some kids coming up that'll be fine, but, they lost all there receivers to graduation. I look for them to utilize alot of HB screens and throwing to the backs from different formations. one other question mark is can Armstrong pass? Shelton was such a threat with his arm and legs and if Logan can't keep the defenses honest, then it could cause serious damage to the running game as teams will stack the box and force them to air it out to score...

Overall, I look for the Cards to be a solid state title contender in '07, along with Beechwood and Frankfort.....

I had heard some talk in Mayfield of Tony Hockett joining the football team next season, either as a potential quarterback or a receiver. Anything definite on that?

Jared McQuiston is supposed to be coming back for his senior year. He started at TE his sophomore year but did not play last year.

I don't know about the QB spot because he never played that position while at Mayfield but he did play WR his sophomore year on JV.

.....

Punter Aaron Williams graduates this year and will not be back. Tommy McNutt will kick and punt this upcoming football season. I was told by his father that he will be attending a punting and kicking camp put on by ex-Dallas Cowboy Chris Boniol.

my bad, I thought Aaron was a jr last year

I don't know what kind of football player Tony is, but, he's a heck of an athlete and I would think could benefit the Cards somewhere, if not the QB position, maybe in the secondary, LB or at the WR position....Good to hear Mccuistian is coming back too...I thought a couple of years ago, he had the potential to be pretty good...He'll definately help from a depth standpoint, if nothing else...

Mayfield has the potential to be state champs IF they can figure out the QB position. Armstrong throws a nice ball but has not played QB at the varsity level and I hate to loose him of D where he is a stud. There is a back comming up that will be a freshman that may has the talent to be the best ever at Mayfield. The defense should be excellent and the line play should be pretty darn good. One has to be really excited about the underclassmen comming up. Not sure how big a role they will play next year but they have some special classes in the wings. Next year IF the Cards can figure out how to get decent QB play they will be a big factor in class A

Yes, Noonan is the kids name thats coming up as a freshman...If this kid is half as good as hes made out to be, he'll step into the starting lineup immediately...Thats not such a bad thing as you'll either have alot of quality depth at the RB position or have the capability of playing Trevarthan or Murrell at the flanker/WR position and give them another solid athlete on the field..

Its very exciting and I haven't been this excited about Mayfield football in quite a while. These next 2-3 years are gonna be so much fun to watch, at least I think so.

IF the Cards can find a QB that can get them the ball otherwise we maybe a pretty good run only team and some of the better upstate teams have demonstrated to us in the recent pasts that if you cant pass you cant be state champs. Well now that I think back I do recall the Ads running the ball all the way to the title a couple of years ago but I hope we can get the QB position in good enough order to atleast keep teams somewhat honest
