2007 Mayfield

IF the Cards can find a QB that can get them the ball otherwise we maybe a pretty good run only team and some of the better upstate teams have demonstrated to us in the recent pasts that if you cant pass you cant be state champs. Well now that I think back I do recall the Ads running the ball all the way to the title a couple of years ago but I hope we can get the QB position in good enough order to atleast keep teams somewhat honest

Passing sure helps, but, there's been alot of Mayfield teams(7 to be exact) that have been predominantly running teams that have won it...Russell is another example of a running team thats won it recently. St X is another and Danville has fit that bill several times...My point is, it's not so much the ability to pass as it is the ability to defend the pass thats hurt some teams recently...

By the way, I've gotta question? Didn't Trevarthan play some QB in his younger years? I was thinking he did and was just curious...

Its very exciting and I haven't been this excited about Mayfield football in quite a while. These next 2-3 years are gonna be so much fun to watch, at least I think so.

I agree...It seems like lately when the Cards have solid skill players, there line has been thin and when they have solid line play, the skill positions are thin...This year, they should have both and should be fun to watch..

My son is in the same grade as Andy and Logan. Logan has always been the QB in their grade level.

Mayfield may have the best kicker in the state. Did the kids from Fulton City transfer to Mayfield or are they staying put? I hear the freshmen and sophomore classes are something to behold.

Tommy McNutt is a HUGE asset for the Cards...Heard he has attended several camps and may even line up some at WR for the Cards.

The Fulton boys are staying put...never a real possibility for what I know and prolly the best move to stay at Fulton. Just some parents talking, I don't believe any serious conversations were had among parents of kids and coaches.

The freshman class has 3 solid players I would say that may see some action this year. Luke Guhy is going be a good QB, along with the RB (Noonan) and Richardson kid they will be a good trio.

Should be a great year for the Cards assuming they stay healthy and Armstrong adjusts to QB position well!

I hate to say it, but I have not had a whole lot of time to watch practice so far this season...I like the size of the linemen that we have...but can anyone in Cardinal nation that has seen the majority of practices tell me how the line is coming together on both sides of the ball...as I feel like that will be the key as always to how the season goes.

This is kinda off topic, but I took my son to Mayfield Elementary kindergarten today and I went to his class and I asked one of his classmates what his name was and his mom said "Derrick Parrot", lol, its his son.

GoBigRed, I'm betting he (Parrott) will be a good athlete in a few years...

Thats for sure

I have heard from a very reasonable source that senior to be Nick Walter has been practicing the QB position all summer and will back up Logan Armstong so if Armstrong needs a break Walter will go in for him because he most likely wont come out on defense. Walter will also be playing some WR and start Safety on defense.

Walter fits the QB mold is a fairly good athlete, I always thought he or speedy Trevarthen would be a very good fit at QB although I would bet that Armstrong has the better arm.

I can just see someone trying to tackle Armstrong at QB and he laying the load to them like Culpepper use too...

Your source is right on the money. Freshman Luke Guhy is also getting some snaps

Logan is a complete player. One of the toughest kids on Mayfield's team and he is also a great team leader. He is a team player and not a me kind of guy.

So is Mayfield going with more of a mix-match of QB's this year? I think it could work out well myself, with the Guhy kid coming in and getting in that rotation and getting some experience.

Hey, do any of you Mayfield guys know the time of the Christian county scrimmage next Friday?
