Congrats to Coach Chase Floyd earning his first win as a Head Coach!! Conner finally played 4 qtrs of football and got a running clock going up 35-0 in the 3rd qtr.

NCC scored 2 late tds vs the JV in the 4th qtr to end the game 35-14.

best of luck to both teams the rest of the year.

I think the final was 41-14, but moot point. Congrats to the Cougars, and Chase Floyd, on the first of many wins!

NCC has a nice 1A team, but their QB has to be more of a threat to throw the ball if they want to have a chance at really making some noise in the playoffs.

Made the trip up tonight. First off, Newport Catholic's new facility is wonderful. Really happy for those folks after so many years having to go down the hill. Second, the weather was wonderful. Nice breeze, perfect fall football weather.

About the game, Conner dominated from the get-go. Not a ton of team speed for the Cougars but their quarterback is solid, running back runs hard, and they've got a potential weapon in the wide receiver #1. (Sorry I don't know any names).

As for Newport Catholic, they had moments of good but had some penalties that hurt. They seemed to be slower than Conner, who wasn't super fast themselves. ASJ mentioned the quarterback, but he was injured last in the third quarter and came away holding him knee. Hopefully it isn't serious. The fourth quarter was all JV and I was impressed with the Breds' young running back who had several nice runs and has the makings of being a really good player in the future.

As a NewCath fan, I am VERY cognizant of were the team is...now. This will be a tough year, for sure. That said, tonight I saw parts moving in the right direction. You get the running clock, you understand that there are a bunch of coachable moments. You don't always get glimpses of what will be.

Missed tackles and blown assignments will be coached. TB has guaranteed that. The talent that is developing is exciting. Get your licks in for a couple of more weeks. Conner earned that butt whooping. However, pin this post. Within three years, NewCath take 1A again.
