BluegrassPreps.com Class 5A Football Rankings 9/7

Featured Replies

Class 5A
1. Scott County
2. Owensboro
3. Pulaski County
4. Woodford County
5. Atherton
6. Bowling Green
7. Madisonville-North Hopkins
8. Apollo
9. North Laurel
10. West Jessamine

This is a ranking I can fully agree with. Atherton may be over Woodford, we'll find out Friday.

SC over O after a 1 score win over BG?… I guess.🫤

Scored 51 though....this SC offense is a headache for any team in the state which I assume is the reason we're #1. A lot of time for that to change ! We go @mad central after this week.

That is a head scratcher for sure. O with G'way is No. 1 until someone proves otherwise - beat X and thumped South Warren albeit in scrimmage.

I get it, the offense is tough. But they also let a young BG offense score 40+. This ranking is pretty much saying there is only a 1 score separation between the #1 and #7. Have to say I disagree. I think SC would struggle with Pulaski's and a healthy Owensboro's run defense but the SC defense wouldn't be able to stop either teams offense.

With all due respect to BG; SC hasn't played anybody of meaningful stature. The teams they've beat have a combined record of 2-7 allowing an avg of 30 ppg..

But how long until Gannaway returns? If Owensboro played Scott County today, with their lineups as they are today, who would be the favorite? That's how I tend to view these rankings.

SC's biggest issue on defense is letting up big plays on 3rd/4th and long. BG didn't easily march down the field the majority of the game. SC had them in many 3rd/4th and longs and SC only got a stop once in those situations. Same story with Franklin. The flyers couldn't really move the ball but on 3rd and 14 they always got the 1st down. GC scored 0 on the full SC defense 7 on a half and half unit and then 14 on the JV.

I say let our guys play man with a Saftey high. Everytime we go into 3rd and long we bring a 3 man rush with a very soft zone. Our deep guys on a 3rd and 15 are sinking 20-25 yards back, and the opposing teams are throwing it 12-14 yards down field to open space which is why we keep giving up first downs and points. I'd like to see different looks from Monty once we face teams like Woodford, Collins or Highlands later in the year.

How much RPO does Owensboro typically run? That was the only thing SC couldn't figure out all night with BG.

I would have Owensboro at #1. Beating St. X is better than Scott County's win over Bowling Green plus CAL would beat Scott County just as bad as they beat Owensboro.

Rankings mean very little this time of year. Just something for people like us to talk about.

My Cards have to start playing better defense to truly deserve the top spot.

The top 6 to 7 are all very good and capable.

I think we'd put up some points on CAL.

SC offense > Owensboro

Owensboro defense > SC

That state championship would be a very interesting matchup.

6 wks out from what I'm told... Even with line ups as is. I'm not sure SC could stop our offense.

Could SC beat St. X?.. It's really hard to do team comparisons in that manner. Just because you would score doesn't mean you would be any closer to beating them than O would. CAL is just O's complete weakness. The level of talent they possess no team in 5A comes close to having.

I agree O vs SC would be a good game. Hope it happens this year.

SC and X would be a one possession game going either way I think. X offense isn't crazy, but they have a good defense. I would say it's be a 35-28 type game.

Oh yeah we'd lose like 77-28 to CAL lol. We have good players on defense they just don't consistently play well together I don't know why.

St. X beat Bowling Green 39-10 and Scott County squeaked by Bowling Green. I think St. X probably wins by 21.
