I believe that they are more coaches from South( Greenup, Wurtland) of the Greenup Dam than from North(South Shore). I may be wrong. Here are the ones I know.

Eric Keaton- Girls basketball- Not sure I believe Ashland

Greg Logan- Baseball-1st street Lloyd

Jeane Galihue-Softball-Rt 1 greenup

And Eric Keeton is from Raceland. One of the best Raceland B-ballers I have ever seen and I would love to see him coaching on the bench at the Palace someday.

A friend of mine that works for the Kentucky State Police says that you don't have to worry about getting an AI or DUI when you do that, but if you spend a lot of time watering yourself at the local resturant bars it can happen...You wouldn't believe some of the people he has taken to the drunk tank.

Yes - but it's usually in support of a given school (usually an Alma Mater). Not that often that you see someone go after a guy like Sutton for nothing more than committing the sin of not being named Jim Hicks.

I think the General is for Greenup, enough said.

I don't know Sutton. However, it is clear that he willingly and anxiously accepted the job with full knowledge of the continuing turmoil that seems to always exist at Greenup County.

 

I have been told by "players" in this drama that Sutton "undercut" Hicks and that it is common knowledge among the partisans in the Greenup County Musketeer community. If that is the case, it is reasonable to assume that Sutton will receive what he delivered. In a "perfect society" that may not happen. However, the western end of Greenup County falls short of that distinction.

 

Although all I have is heresay and what I read in the newspaper (also a lot of heresay), I must conclude that Sutton is not a sympathetic victim but merely a willing participant in the process. He didn't just appear on the scene. And, regardless of the reasons, the Musketeers are not exactly "progressing" under his leadership and that, after all, is the "bottom line" in this area.

 

How can you conclude anything on merely hearsay? I know Coach Sutton and all he cares about is those kids. I think it's pretty darn couragous to take that job under the circumstances. You can't judge his abilities of coaching on this year, it's completely unfair. I don't think many coaches would be successful in a situation like this, especially without the support of the parents who I'm sure are dogging him at home to the players. Nathan would not have taken this job if he didn't care deeply for these players, a job that many people wouldn't have touched with a ten foot pole. The people of Greenup need to give this guy a break, he stepped up to lead when you all needed lead.

 

I know the Wright's, my brother played on an AAU team with Travis and won 4 state championships. I know he loves to play the sport and he would do anything asked of him in order to get a win and it's a shame that in 20 yrs when he thinks back to his HS playing days that he'll remember this more than the moments on the court. Not only Travis but the rest of the seniors as well. That's the sad part about this whole situation. It truely is a sad situation when you think about that.

But, I believe that no hard evidence has been made public, so until I see it in the public domain I have to reserve my judgment either way.

Imo TGS the "hard evidence" as you put it doesn't have to be made public. I don't know if rules were broken or not but I along with others really do not need to know. That matter is for the persons involved and if they choose not to make it public then that is their choice (and probably a good one). As an outsider to the program I have seen and heard things about the "politics" at GCHS for as long as GCHS has been a school. I have also heard things not so on the up and up on Coach Hicks and Coach Ward also for that matter. What I am trying to say is that it is not a requirement for me or the public to know during an investigation. That imo is for the people involved in whatever dispute/situation to know and deal with.

 

As for your support of Coach Ward, imo what a lot of people had against him was his style of play. Coach Ward won basketball games and to me that is the bottom line. I will say that in the year/years that GCHS had Williams, Fuller, Scott, Garvin and others that his style of play kept some teams in the game where if he had played a more aggrssive style they wouldn't had been. That team was loaded and imo Wards style of play somewhat held them down. Jmo and they were very sucseessful regardless, I just wonder if they would have won the State Tiltle that year by playing more up tempo. Bottom line in all of this is that no matter who a coach is at any school that there will always be some people against him. That just goes along with the title of "Coach".

Excellent post. Sutton should be applauded for picking up the pieces for these kids and not rallied against.

It is a stretch to say Cokksey's first team could have won the region.

Ward's last team with Sutton and Griffith were a lot better and they did not win the region.

Plus I dont remember Lawson being player of the year in the region.
