Yes, I knew what you were referring to and agree with you. My point was that a lot of folks will grab some head to head stats and form an opinion based only on that. 

Something that we've discussed in a group chat that I'm in: does the fact that Phillips had so much varsity time as a middle school player help or hurt him in these discussions?

I think ultimately it will help him because there is a career component to the award in most coaches mind. 

Wish Seneca Driver could be added to the mix. I know he's a JR but it's technically his SR year of basketball (his last one). Watching him and Ateny go at it was a blast Saturday. High level basketball. 

I can assure you Ateny won't win it! Lol Coaches won't vote for him. They didn't give it to Boyd last year, and won't give it to Ateny this year.

It will be Phillips I'm sure. However, I think Absher has a real case!

Some coaches for sure.  Ateny would have my vote.  Seeing him compete many times, he is a special talent.

So Ateny, Phillips, and Absher definitely are top 3 in some order. I think in the end it is Phillips. 

Now, we also have Zachary Hutchinson at Southwestern and Walker Craig at Rockcastle that also deserve a mention.

Not sure, but my eye test tells me if he gets in a legit strength and conditioning program he will be a monster.

You got me to thinking and Trevan Faulkner would be my pick to date.  He scored over 1,300 points at the D1 level.  Anyone that watched him play in high school knew that he was the real deal.

Excellent Player.  Just my opinion, Ateny ceiling is higher to me because of the size/mixed with skill set.  His shooting splits are tremendous.  Trevon was not a great shooter in HS, but obviously improved throughout his collegiate career when he got into Northern's Program.  I could most certainly be wrong, and the production Faulkner had speaks for itself.  He's def. a worthy selection.

Not all strength and conditioning programs are equal.  Some are useless and can veer into the dangerous category.  Ralph Sampson dealt with a back injury for years he suffered under the direction of a grad student who thought it was appropriate to have a 7-4 guy do deep squats.

The guy at Houston has been able to make tremendous progress putting weight on tall skinny guys.

Leek has a couple of intangibles that will help him. First, he has a tremendous work ethic and he’s got the good sense to focus on the most important skill of all which is shooting.  Second, he’s very humble and listens well.  He will be an asset to whoever recruits him and that is as a person and not just a player.

I said "legit".  Of course, the level you play will dictate the resources you have.

Correct.  And, the most important resource, IMHO, is a knowledgeable trainer.

True.  It is hard to beat good size.
