Shelby County 58 Simon Kenton 54

What happen to Wade????

Dismissed as of last week I believe.

On a side note, toward the end of the game I moved to the lower level and noticed a rather large man. Come to find out it was one time Rocket and LexCath player Nathan Popp. Along with Simon from a few years back, they grow them tall down in Shelbyville. Must be the limestone in the water.:D

Simons is now their radio play-by-play guy at Shelby, and Popp in the Head Coach at East Middle School in Shelby.

I give SK the edge in the regionals playing on a neutral floor at Henty Co.

Big win for Shelby and everyone counted them down and out. That Shelby County name has haunted NKy for 28 years now. i.e Holmes in Championship.

Wade not being there makes it easier for the staff and players. No Drama, no, no more drama! Nice win shelby but do not rest!

I agree with you entirely. I am sure that you remember those days!

#31 last name is Cochran.

Would you happen to know what class?:thumb:

Please don't give the Hester excuse. I went to this game and Shelby held Simon Kenton in check all night. Hester found out that last year's regional final was no fluke and that Shelby has the players that can guard him man to man. "Hester wasn't himself" ? Hester couldn't get by the kid that was guarding him that is why he wasn't himself. Simon Kenton got killed on the boards and they couldn't keep Shelby from driving past them off the dribble. Even without Wade in the paint to challenge shots Shelby showed that they are still the team to beat in the 8th region. Shelby had a great game plan that didn't allow Hester to get much accomplished, 3 points, that had more to do with defense and less to do with Hester. Don't make excuses, Shelby beat Simon Kenton. I will refer to some of the posts I made earlier this season in regards to Simon and Shelby. "Shelby has athletes and Simon struggles with athletic teams." Good win for Shelby! Don't give excuses if you are Pioneer fans just hope Steiner can find a way to beat Shelby in early March.

I'm not one for excuses. But Simon Kenton still had a chance to win, at Shelby, without a starter and their sixth man, without a healthy Hester (don't tell me he's at full strength, he had 1 point against Ryle, you should know better), and with Hurd having a bad night. Shelby won last night and they deserve the 'W', but I wouldn't say they're the team to beat yet.

I think they are the team to beat until proven otherwise.

Congrats to Shelby County, but I still like SK to win the 8th region. Hester is cleared to play right now, but he is nowhere near 100%. When he does get to a 100% and also include Zach Layne who missed Friday's game, SK will be the team to beat for the 8th.

Made it down to watch the game but didnt get there until halfway through the 1st quarter. Shelby seemed to want this game a little more than SK up until the 4th when SK made a run but just fell short. Overall this was an ugly game to watch which favors Shelby and the result shows this. Hester isnt near 100% right now. This was my first chance to seem him back and the rust shows big time. He was even limping late in the game which is sort of scary for the Pioneers. Hopefully this is just soreness and nothing more. Elbert seemed to be the only one who really played as hard as he could in this game and thats unacceptable for the Pioneers. Im sure Steiner let this be known soon after this game. #24 did do a good job of denying Hester the ball and playing good D on him all game but if Mike is 100% ( which he should be come tourny time ) that will be alot tougher to do. Hurd and Kohrs have to hit the boards alot harder if these two teams match up in the regionals. Layne not being there also hurt SK alot he can score and with his size at guard can help out on the glass. Having said all that, Shelby deserved to win this game but I still think things will be different at Henry Co. The only good news for SK is as bad as they played they still only lost by 4 at Shelby.

I agree with your post, I didn't see the limping but I didn't keep my eye on Hester enough from the upper deck. Elbert played well, he's capable of 20/10/5 on any given night, SK needs some production from the PF spot whether it's Kohrs or Maegley, they need to make a few buckets in the post to keep the constant double off of Hurd. Shelby has a big lineup, seemed like they could keep a steady lineup of 6'3" perimeter players, I think that is their one advantage over SK.

:thumb: Agreed!!! That's where I think having Layne in the lineup will help alot. There were times when SK had Hester, Hopkins and Ponzer on the floor at the same time and Shelby really killed them on the boards. Layne being 6'1 or so and a good atlhete should make a difference on both sides of the floor. As for the PF spot I like Kohrs and the toughness he brings to this team but I just didnt see it Friday night. You cant expect him to score too much and they really dont need him to. They do need him to rebound and play tough defense which he is capable of.

They don't have to run plays to Kohrs but he has to bring it on the boards, maybe get a few stickbacks, that can deter a double team.

I think if SK is smart they will shut Hester down till tournment time. The way I look at it is that SK does not need these regular season wins they are pointless right now. It is all about the tournment and I talked to somebody who is best friends with Mike and he said after the games he can not even walk on the foot I just don't see the point of pushing it right now.

Actually I am going to disagree with you on shutting down Hester till post-season. This would not be smart as Mike needs to get back into basketball shape and real game situations. Coming back from an injury is as much a mental thing as well as physical, and he needs these remaining games to get used to playing again and to gain his confidence back.

I understand what you are saying, but at what cost if there is a chance of re-injuring the foot it just is not worth it.
