Meade County Enters the 2025 Football Season with a new coach in Blake Powers, a 2003 Graduate of Meade County and former QB. Powers took over in January from veteran head coach Larry Mofield, who retired after 21 seasons leading the Green Wave program. Mofield coached his entire 35-year career at Meade County. Powers spent the last three years on the Army coaching staff coaching running backs and tight ends. He played quarterback and tight end at Indiana University. Last season, the Black Knights led the country in rushing, averaging more than 300 yards an outing as Army finished 12-2.

Tulane Commit, QB Cade Scott, who threw for 2,295 yards and averaged 208 yards per game thru the air leaves a big void to fill on offense. Durelle Loggins, who threw for 1,433 yards last season for the North Hardin Trojans, started practicing with Meade County three weeks ago and has played in both of their scrimmages as their starting QB. As of Friday, his transfer packet was still sitting with the KHSAA awaiting review and decision on whether he will be allowed to play for Meade County this season. This makes for an interesting week for the Green Wave as they wait on this decision to come down.

RB Wyatt Rainey returns for his senior season for Meade County after rushing for 626 yards last season. Also returning to the backfield is FB Cruz Redman, who sat out last season recovering from an injury. As a sophomore two seasons ago, he was their leading rusher. They also return Grayson Heiner at slot WR, who looks to have a big season with the addition of Loggins at QB.

3 key returning players on offensive line include Braylen Pruitt. The offensive line boasts 3 players who average over 300lbs.

The Defense is led by seniors Jesse Beavin and Dylan Tucker.

In 2024, South Oldham put together a solid season going 7-4. They were a last second TD away from a district title in a very tough district. They lost to eventual state runner-up Cooper in the first round of the playoffs. In 2025 South Oldham loses a lot on both sides of the ball. The graduation of Julian Miles and Ethan Arnold, who accounted for 1000 yards passing, almost 1200 yards on the ground and 600 yards receiving between the QB and Slot duo will be hard to replace. These two players made up a majority of the South Oldham offense last season.

Four of the starting five offensive lineman from last season have graduated as well as receiver Max Madsen.

Returning players include fullback Kole Greenwell and Slot receiver Evan Hickerson who were major contributors offensively over the past two seasons. Hickerson battled injuries last season and was limited.  Adrian Miles looks to be the favorite to start at QB for South Oldham where he was playing on a rotating basis to start the season last year.

Defensively South Oldham returns three out of four starting defensive lineman including Louisville commit DL Sam Dawson who will be a 4- year starter.

Three out of four defensive backs return and one inside linebacker.

This team will need to hang its hat on the defense until the offense gets some reps and confidence under them.

My Prediction: Meade County 34 South Oldham 28

They just had the camera in one end zone so it wasn’t a easy watch but it appeared MC roughed up Barren pretty good in the scrimmage and it seems SO lost a lot so I’m going with Meade 35-7.

I was able to take a look at South Oldham for the first time on Friday against East Jessamine and liked what I saw. They were dominant against the Jags on both sides of the ball. Juelz Davila has moved from safety to inside linebacker and provides a little more speed which has lacked at the position in previous years. Louisville commit DL Sam Dawson has added some size in the offseason and will garner a double team virtually every play. With that being said South Oldham still has room to work defending the pass which killed them last season. Track athlete Kolade Dada adds some speed and size at 6’3+ to the receiving core. The offensive line is young but has great size. If they can give the push up front to run the ball effectively I think we could be looking at a shoot out. I really don’t know much about Meade County but being a fan I’ll take South Oldham 35-28.

South Oldham wins by 2 scores

I have a feeling Coach Powers is going to get Meade County better in a hurry. They have been a bottom 1/3 6A team for a few years now. Although going on the road Game 1 vs a decent Dragon squad is a tough ask.

This game is in our Pick 5 Contest.

The Question is the same for a lot of teams in the state... Will their transfer QB be eligible week 1?

I will update tomorrow on DJ Loggins status for their game at South Oldham. In another development, Meade County has another transfer from North Hardin who is a sophomore and plays DB. Not sure when he will be available?

Will do my best to update the score throughout the night. Wasn’t able to make it to the game but hoping the hudl live stream holds up.

Meade Co 3 and out to start the game.

Dragons moving the ball now inside the Meade 20.

Juelz Davila scores via the triple option to put the Dragons up first. PAT blocked. 6-0 South Oldham early in the 1Q.

Meade OL struggling with the South Oldham defensive line. 3rd and really long for the green wave.

Meade Co QB sacked. 4th down and probably 25. Meade Co has not yet gotten a first down.
