I am watching the post about this (the Board of ED statement) on the Beechwood Independent School District page and one poster had a couple of things to say on the why:

This school is only concerned with saving face and not the actual safety of students. It is sick.
Was Stacy and the Board aware of EPSB’s concerns at the time that they voted to extend his contract early?
He is BARRED and still no apology or accountability taken.

Amanda Rosen I believe it is part of their PR strategy. They only post these statement to shape public perception, especially during crises or sensitive situations. It allows them to control comments, monitor reactions, and respond publicly.

In response to that Facebook post, I think any admission of wrongdoing or guilt would make possible litigation problematic for the school, so from an outsider's perspective I think that the letter that went out was carefully crafted by the school's attorney.

Right, it was pretty much a simple defense of Stacy/Beechwood. 

It will be interesting to see how much of the Beechwood community will keep quiet just to keep appearances that everything is great in the district.

Sounds like Stacy put his head in the sand and thought by not following up he could make it go away.

Listening to even a fraction of the interview between KSP and the teacher makes it very clear that there was misconduct. Belief doesn't factor into it, but even without it, the fact that KSP came to the school and the teacher resigned when facing an investigation is enough to file the report.

This is wrong, Beechwood. Very wrong. It gives me genuine pause about having our kids there.

Explain the rational for promoting Kaiser to superintendent.

Stacy stated he was late for an interview with KSP and one of his teachers and left the interview early. Very convenient for plausible deniability and, not making an accusation, just an observation. But, wouldn’t a superintendent want to be present for every word of an interview of that magnitude? Furthermore, Justin Kaiser, then principal and now superintendent was, in fact, present for the entire interview. Although he was not required to report, but ethically and as a parent, I would expect the principal to do so. We all have every right to ask questions without consequence. I read a response stating “be very careful of how you word assertions or accusations in public forums” and that sounds a bit like a threat. Parents and Ft. Mitchell tax payers have every right to be livid, want answers and question the information being made public. Keeping quiet is exactly how predators in a power dynamic get to keep hurting children. Kaiser should also be held accountable, but instead gets a promotion. He needs to resign. There’s been so many scandals over the past 23 years we’ve been in Ft. Mitchell, I’ve lost track at this point. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, for those of you who remember Harper Valley PTA…Beechwood is worse.

This entire revelation fines me confused/perplexed.  Dr. Stacy alludes to the Board’s attorney in concluding nothing needed to be reported.  Did he not have a detailed discussion with the principal who was in the entire interview, Board members, and Board attorney…all of which would seem to me to be a minimum of due diligence before concluding the non-reporting action was the course to be taken. The EPSB guidelines read clearly to me that reporting was the only action that could possibly be interpreted.  LexHerald article yesterday refers to “Pass the Trash” actions need to be a thing of the past.

Molly Seifert sat on the stage in the auditorium at Beechwood High School. She was at the end of a row of tables shaped like a horseshoe, occupied by the district’s board of education. 

“I’m here to speak on behalf of young women who have been sexually harassed, abused or groomed in the school setting,” Seifert said, looking at each board member, along with newly appointed Superintendent Justin Kaiser. “I am one of these women.” 

Seifert is a teacher and the parent of a Beechwood graduate. 

“When I graduated from high school in 1995 the word grooming didn’t exist yet,” Seifert said. 

But the practice did, she said, as evidenced by her history teacher’s behavior. 

“I approached the administration at the time, but I was brushed aside, like many young women oftentimes are,” Seifert said. “Years later, at a family dinner, my younger cousin mentioned that the same thing happened to her. Same school, same teacher. That teacher went on to have a 40 year career in education.” 

AND

Beechwood parent Lisa Meiman also addressed the board Monday night. 

“Please speak to your children about the possibility that they came in contact with someone that behaves in any way inappropriately,” Meiman said. 

Further, Meiman said, students were told to “stop spreading rumors” if anyone heard them talking about the incident at school. 

“When you’re asking for silence from children of sexual abuse, you’re inviting the abuser to be the winner,” Meiman said. “We should have provided counselors. We should have provided the parents the opportunity to speak to a professional so that they could know how to best speak to their children and protect their children. That’s all we want: to protect our children. That’s the only reason that we’re outraged.” 

Wow. As a father of two daughters this has my blood boiling and wanting to run through a brick wall for these ladies. 

Always ugly when something like this happens, but the administration didn’t do itself any favors here.

I am not the expert here but I think that is the way the rules are written, the Super has the duty to report, not the Principal.  

And with that in mind it almost makes me think the Super "ducking in and out of the meeting in question" was intentional to provide him/Beechwood some plausible deniability if the cover up was ever discovered.

EPSB (Educational Professional Standards Board) guidance - which oversees this situation (along with all teacher certifications) - specifically states that the superintendent is required to report.

Might seem strange based on other reporting requirements but since superintendents preside over the whole system and are directly tasked with human resources underneath them, especially in bigger districts, the intention is to streamline that process.

Makes the lines of authority and responsibility crystal clear.  No excuses or confusion at all as to requirements.  EPSB doesn’t want any confusion and has made it very clear.
