My $2 ATB on 18 won $31.04 total, but I lost $4.96 on the full bet.

I heard this also.

Sovereignty not going to run in two weeks in the Preakness.

Just like that no one (read: casual fans) cares about horse racing and the record breaking ratings for the Derby will dwarf the minuscule ratings for the Preakness.

The racetrack at Pimlico does not suit his running style.  So should he run just to please the public?  Even though he does not run, there will be a nice field running for that black letter type win.

Explain what doesn't fit his style. I don't follow racing enough to know why that track wouldn't fit his style.

I know this race is shorter, but I don't think that's what you're talking about.

He is a horse that comes from off the pace and the track at Pimlico has always been conducive to front runner/ speedy types.

Is that due to the track or the fact that this next race is just 1 1/8 miles vs 1 1/4 in the Derby?

The reason the triple crown is hard is because of the three varied distances Derby (1 1/4) best all-around horse, Preakness (1 1/8) for sprinters and Belmont (1 1/2) for distance horses.

The track.

I know this race is shorter, but I don't think that's what you're talking about.

Pimlico turns aren't banked like other horse tracks. A flatter turn makes it harder for a horse to build momentum out of the turn. Think of it like a NASCAR track but obviously horse tracks have no where near as steep banking, but it is the same principal. Think what auto racing turns would look like with no banking. Cars would have to slow down and passing in turns would be impossible. The Preakness is a shorter race with a shorter closing stretch plus harder to build speed in the flatter turn makes it difficult for a horse to come from off the pace at Pimlico.
