I have heard that they are accepting donations in order to help with their championship rings. Is this true? If so, where would someone send their money to and to who's attention?

 

Our family feels so blessed that our boys have the opportunity to wear championship rings and we would like to help some other child do the same. If someone could please give me the information of where donations are to be sent, I would truly appreicate it.

Good luck in your quest. I was involved in the fund raising for the rings last year and it is a monumental undertaking. We had to raise a bit over 15,000 in about 8 weeks but it was all worth it. The boys rings look awesome and I am sure that Mercers will look great as well. I wish I had a good picture to post.

Last I heard they had a goal of $28,000, and that they had a little over $18,000, still a ways to go. Some fundraisers include a football poster with a new team picture to sell. They got a ring committee of parents that have really been beating the bush for money and working their tails off. Rings were ordered a couple of weeks ago so time is ticking. Russell's rings were 189.00 each and no player had to pay for their own. The parents and boosters pulled together to raise all of the funds. I hope that Mercer can do the same to save any financial hardship for parents who could have trouble paying for the rings. Every player should get one regardless of ability to pay.

If they have a goal of $28,000 for say 70 people a ring, not sure if they had that many on the roster or not but include coaches, then that would be $400.00 a ring.

Rings are $240.00 each. There are 92 players that will be taken care of first. Then the high school coaches. I think it is great that Coach Jaggers wanted his middle school coaches included in getting rings. They are, of course, the ones working his feeder program. We will not need exactly $28,000, but that is the goal that was set to make sure everyone is taken care of.

Seems to me that the school could and should pay some on the rings. There was extra money made on play off games that took place at Mercer that I am sure that wasn't in the budget since no one knew for sure where the play offs would be played till the end of the season. These players worked hard to acheive this championship and the school benefits from it, just seems like some of the funds could be found in that system to pay for them.

We thought we would get something from the school in the beginning. Unfortunately that is against KHSAA rules. The school isn't allowed to buy gifts for the players and the rings would be concidered gifts.

I guess when you have so many to buy for (92 players and at least 20 coaches), you get a good discount on the price. $240.00 each.
