16thBBall Fan Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 Final from Dunbar. A heck of a game from the #2 and #3 ranked teams in the state. Great Crossing made it interesting down the stretch. Give the Broncos credit they never gave up and had a couple of shots to get a win. but give the Warhawks credit they played great defense on the last Bronco possession to secure the win. They will take on the 3rd region winner on Thursday March 27th at 6:00pm. 1 1
16thBBall Fan Posted March 12, 2025 Author Posted March 12, 2025 Great Crossing improves to 31-4 on the season while Frederick Douglass finishes the season at 25-5 in probably the best region in the state this season. Their 5 losses were to #1 ranked St. X; 2 losses to #2 ranked Great Crossing by a total of 10 points in both. A 2-point loss to #5 ranked Bryan Station and a loss to a very good Henry Clay team. Congrats and best of luck to Great Crossing at the state. 2 1
Statsdontlie Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 59 to 57 was the final score. Douglass had a chance to win it with a Tate Robinson 3 at the buzzer, but it was off.
Hungover_in_Andover Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 The Warhawks have a unicorn... Yet have down to the wire Region wins against Station and Douglass. Yeah, the Region is tough, but you have a 7 footer!!! And the supporting cast is very good as well! Not sure at what point they run into St. X, but I'd definitely expect St. X to beat them again. Great Crossing should really be beating the best teams in KY by 7-10 points. Nobody has a legit big man to guard Moreno! 1

Team basketball tends to win championships moreso than simply having the best talent. Credit to their opponents for not just letting them roll over them every night.

I know many schools that have 7-footers and missed the state tournament, it isn't that crazy. 1

The 11th region is tough, and to win it back to back years is no small feat. They had to beat one of Lex. Cath's better teams in recent history last year in the finals. 2

Stop it. 7 footers are rare, Moreno is even more generational (in the state of KY). And he has a capable supporting cast. He had a triple double last night, yet his team won by 2 points!

I don't understand what you are trying to get at here. They played St. X the first two weeks of the season. Any game played before Christmas Break is practically irrelevant. Bryan Station and Frederick Douglass were both ranked extremely high in the state. At the high school level, any matchup between the top-10 teams is going to be a toss-up 99% of the time.

Yet, having a skilled 7 footer seasoned with a title game run a year prior, it would SEEM that Great Crossing has the mix of talent and experience to win convincingly against top 5 teams that happen to also be in their region. Is it that far-fetched to you that assume that THIS Great Crossing team with a 7 footer, playing in a state that doesn't use a shot clock, should have carried what was once a comfortable lead in the 3rd quarter, to no less than a 6 point win? THAT was my reason for my post.

Normally, if you have a more talented team, you attempt to put teams away by continuing to play your game rather than freezing it out.
16thBBall Fan Posted March 12, 2025 Author Posted March 12, 2025 I think Douglass who had nobody play that was over 6'1 or 6'2 gave a great effort and never quit. Coach Garvin did an excellent job this season. I think they would have had a real shot a state title had Boone stayed at Douglass. Instead his school did not make it out of the district.
