The Region is wide open amongst those 4 teams, but Newport & Lloyd are going to have to get way way better, tougher, and more disciplined if they are going to beat Cooper who I believe is the very clear favorite…..

 

 

I could be wrong but I do not believe Cooper has played Newport yet this season.

You're right. Last meeting was the 2024 title game.

My bad…..serves me right for doing this during a meeting at work……I meant the Beechwood game Newport lost 59-57…..got Cooper on my mind too much….although Cooper could be getting set up for a loss with all the behind the scenes drama start to Hit…..so sad

That's a better surmation(?) than I could've done. The way Newport's head coach acts on the sideline, his assistants and the fans feed off of that. At times he acts like a total buffoon, and I've never seen a coaching staff have so much room to openly gripe to the officials. The players, you can see feed of the negative antics. The Highlands regular season game is an easy one to point to as an example. Had a chance to blow them out, but got to confident, then when they went to stall ball and had some close calls go against them and silly turnovers their body language totally changed.

I don't know why this news at Cooper is coming out now, I've heard the rumblings for a while but wanted to respect a team that was still in season and figured the news would come out as soon as their season was over. I think Sulli's team rides hard for him and wins the 9th. Not sure yet on who they will face but I am leaning towards Lloyd right now.

Thanks for the detail. Maybe some of what I thought was fatigue was actually composure which I agree does fall under discipline. I know both teams haven't played their sharpest in toughest moments and I would see where composure has cost them. I don't think Walker is nearly as bad on the sidelines as Snapp. I think Walker has done a better job then Snapp on getting the most out of his players even though I think both could do a much better job at game planning or sticking to a game plan and trusting the process.

Let us play something out for a moment - if it is Cooper versus Lloyd, is that the last game for the losing coach (at least at that school)? Obviously, on one side we have the Cooper drama. Then on the other we have a head coach whose son is about to play SEC basketball (pure speculation but he wouldn’t be the first high school coach to hang it up to watch their kid play college ball).

I have had the same thought for a while now about coach Walker. Will he ride off into the sunset and head down south with EJ? He could easily get a job somewhere in Columbia, SC. I have heard a lot of people (with 0 inside knowledge) say that's the case that he is gone with EJ. However I doubt it would happen this year. I think he would give it at least a year to see how things play out down south before packing up and heading out. Walker also has another son that's a freshman at Lloyd and that's got to play a role in his decision making. The younger son is a totally different player than EJ but the freshman class at Lloyd is pretty solid. If Walker were to leave I think Sully should take a good look at that job in Erlanger he would be the perfect guy for it. He could turn that freshman class at Lloyd into some animals by the time they graduate. He could make a huge difference in those kids lives and the community. Walker has also done a tremendous job in his time at Lloyd. He has made a huge impact there and obviously I don't think anyone there wants him to leave but if he was to leave Lloyd would be hard pressed to find someone that could sustain what Walker has done. A lot of that success comes with having D-1 ball players on your roster like Israel from a couple years ago, EJ, and I think Blaackar will be playing college ball in a couple years.
