Former Bishop Brossart girls coach and Athletic Director has passed away at 57. RIP, such a great guy!

Last coached at Mason County. Was a boys assistant at Brossart and Highlands for a very long time before becoming head girls coach and AD at Brossart. Known for running the Blacktop League in Northern Kentucky. Over a 100 career wins and a 10th region Coach of the Year award.

Wow, shockingly young.

Rest in Peace, Kevin. 

I grew up with him and he was a top notch guy. You will be missed my friend.

This is far too young.  

He did such a great job with the Blacktop League and making kids feel special and important.  Was so great on summer nights standing around, talking to parents, and watching the kids play in their colored T-shirts.

Kevin Doyle Bundy passed from this earth on Thursday morning, January 23, 2025 at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky from complications of multiple organ failure.  Kevin was 57 years of age.  He was born at the Oakland (California) Naval Hospital on July 10,1967 and lived in Erlanger, Kentucky for most of his life.  Kevin graduated from Lloyd High School and Northern Kentucky University.  At the time of his passing, Kevin lived in Union, Kentucky.  He was preceded in death by his younger brother Kristopher Darin Bundy.  He is survived by his parents,  Paula and Ted Bundy of Union, Kentucky.  Kevin will be laid to rest beside his brother at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Erlanger.

With a flair for writing, Kevin wrote for the Dixie News and served as a freelance writer for other newspapers in the area.  His regular column, Bundy’s [redacted], was always filled with personal insights and served as a source of many debates.  He began his coaching career with the Bailey’s Shell club baseball team in the early 1990’s.  However, Kevin had a lifelong passion for basketball and mentoring youth through his coaching.  He started his basketball coaching career at Tichenor Middle School and then moved on to Highlands (Fort Thomas), while as a varsity boys’ assistant helped lead to four regional championships (9th region) in five years.  He then took his coaching skills and defensive tactics to Bishop Brossart (Alexandria), first as a varsity boys’ assistant, and then taking over the girls’ program and leading them to the 10th region championship in 2021.  He also served as athletic director for five years, playing a key role in building a $2 million outdoor athletic complex.  Kevin closed out his coaching career leading the Mason County girls program for one season before his retirement. For 31 years, Kevin started and continued the Blacktop League, an outdoor fall basketball league for 3rd through 8th graders to sharpen their skills before their school seasons began.  Since 1993, more than 800 teams and over seven thousand future high school players have polished their skills and enhanced their love of the game. “Coach” dedicated his life to shaping young athletes both on and off the court.

Visitation will be at Linnemann Funeral Home, 30 Commonwealth Avenue, Erlanger, KY on Wednesday, January 29th from 5-7:00 p.m. with funeral service at the Funeral Home on Thursday, January 30th at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn cemetery.

It's possible it was an oversight, but according to the Kentucky High School Basketball Encyclopedia, Kevin coached one year at Beechwood High School for the boys program in 2003-04. Can anyone verify? I don't have immediate access to newspaper research.

I remember playing against his Bailey’s Shell and Tichenor teams back in the day. My Lloyd buddies always had a great deal of respect for him.
