Sayre blasts Fairview in the opening round of the playoffs to remain unbeaten undefeated with a 63-0 win. Paris got a comfortable 35-21 win over Frankfort. Frankfort added a late score to make it a 14 point win. This could be the toughest opponent Sayre has faced this season. We thought Bethlehem would give Sayre a test in the last week of the regular season but Sayre destroyed them.  Paris was the favorite last year coming into this matchup. This year Sayre is the favorite. 
 

Who wins this 2nd round Class 1A matchup? Does Sayre continue its dominance? Does Paris avenge last years playoff loss?

I think despite Paris having athletes to potentially cause Sayre fits at times, I think this one is another running clock for Sayre.

I think If Sayre running clocks Paris, then 1A better be on alert.

Hazard beat them 58-34

Raceland beat them 28-14

Bishop Brossart beat them 21-14

 

Paris most definitely will be ready for this game, as Sayre sent them home last year and I’m sure Paris has a bad taste in there mouths from it.

This has potential for being a good game but I think Sayre likely wins without much trouble.

I agree with you on the running clock.

This one has the makings of being one of the best games in the state. Paris has the tools to compete. Last year game between these two teams was close early. Paris made some key mistakes that hurt them in the end. 

Sayre is small up front and surprisingly has done a good job protecting their QB. Sayre has the most underrated QB in the state. With the ball in his hands, I like Sayre in this one. But closer than people think.

If the game is clean, I look for Sayre to be too much, maybe worse than last year. Pennington and Coffman used and abused the Paris secondary that night.

Not only can that not happen again, but I think the Hounds need to do the unthinkable and turn Pennington over a time or two.

I really enjoyed watching Sayre when they was playing in the Hazard and Pikeville district. These Seniors were very fun to watch as sophomores. Coffman is the go to guy, but Charlie Slabaugh, and Caden Jones are dangerous guys with the ball in there hand. 
You also have to worry about Kemonte Braxton as well because he is a ball hawk on defense and able to take one to the house at anytime. Chase Parker is another weapon who has developed since 2022. Parker is having a solid season here in 2024. 

The Spartans are loaded. I have seen both teams play and I think this is a remake of last year's game. Pennington is by far the best QB in the state and the weapons around him will be too much for the Hounds. I do believe Paris will get on the board but it won't be much. Sayre is on a roll!

That's saying a mouthful. He's very, very good, but I'm not crowning him over Atwell, Bailey, James, and a few others in the conversation with the schedule he's faced. Pennington's been comfortable all season. We need to see him challenged at some point to really see what he's made of.

I’m saying it and I’m standing behind it.. you’re telling me Atwell, Bailey, Or James aren’t comfortable with the talent pool that play in front of them?

Sayre lost all but one starter on the entire offensive line and he is still playing comfortably. He played Paris and Raceland last year and failed to throw a pick despite the upscale of competition. At some point we are going to start comparing apples to apples. If Pennington is behind O Cath’s front 5 he would be plenty comfortable and putting up the same numbers if not more!

I think what @DevilMayCare is saying, is the defenses he has faced is what makes it comfortable. He hasn't faced much from defenses.

I'm talking about the level of competition he's faced. Replace Cov. Holy Cross, Dayton, and Bourbon County with Owensboro, South Warren, and Mayfield. If the numbers were the same, then the argument that he's the best in the state has some traction.

In my perfect scenario, he gets a shot at any combination of Raceland, KCD, and Campbellsville in rounds 3 & 4 before Pikeville in the state finals.

He's a great quarterback. I wouldn't cover him in the watchlist every week if he wasn't. I'm simply not willing to co-sign any declaration that he's "by far the best".
