Cooper 56 South Oldham 28

Final from Union.  Jaguars advance to play Scott County next week.

Closer than the score indicates. Fantastic game up until midway through the 4th quarter. Cooper has a great squad and certainly look the part when firing.

How did the Dragons play them so close for 3 quarters, and then commence to giving up 1 play scoring drives that quick? Sheesh!

Close not close, doesn’t matter. It’s playoff football, survive and advance.

It is sometimes good for a top team to get a little scare like this after going undefeated in the regular season. At the end of the day though all that matters is winning and moving on. Which credit to South Oldham for a great game. Cooper made the plays when they had to, to win the game though. Now regroup and get ready for round 3 with Scott County next week.

Go Jags!

South Oldham is the #8 RPI team in 5A.  They were a good football team. They popped a couple plays on the Cooper defense and scored on a KO return.

In the post season the name of the game is survive and advance. Jags are 1-0 this week, looking to go 1-0 next week vs Scott County. No easy games. Everybody better pack a lunch.

I agree, closer than the score indicates but the Jags did dominate at the end.

With 9 minutes left, South Oldham scores and trails 35-28. Cooper then scores 21 unanswered points to get the win.

If my math is correct. I believe Cam O’Hara passed Logan Verax tonight to move into second place all time in NKY career passing yards. O’Hara had 7,733 career passing yards heading into the game tonight according to stats found on KHSAA. Cam Hergott is the NKY career passing yard leader with 8,537. So O’Hara could become the all time NKY career passing yard leader this year, and he still has his senior year to go.

Clay Hayden currently sits at 8,027, not sure how many O’Hara had tonight, but both of them could end up 1, 2 in NKY after this season.

O’Hara was 12/18 for 316 yards with 4 Td’s.

Cooper had arguably the toughest first round game in the state as South Oldham was 1 point away from being the #1 seed in their district before their upset loss to Collins.

While many thought Cooper should have been more dominant in the victory, their starters hadn’t played in the 4th quarter in a month and while they did not play anything close to a “clean” game, they did enough to win, which is what playoff football is all about.

Thought it was interesting that Cooper’s offense only ran a total of 37 plays and still managed to score 49 of the 56 total points.

The path gets no easier and they prepare for a tough Scott Co. team who finished #2 in their district.
