Pikeville cancels 2025 game at Ironton? - False

Featured Replies

I was just told by a great friend, that is a lifetime Ironton resident and school supporter that Pikeville has canceled what was supposed to be their away game at Ironton next year. The reason given was “We lose too much this year and won’t be able to compete”

They knew exactly what they would lose when they signed the 2 year contract with Ironton. That’s pretty weak of Pikeville if this is true, and I have no reason to believe it’s not.

Any of our Pikeville fans want to weigh in on this?

    Is that enough evidence?

For what it's worth, in terms of "damage being done," I don't have any dog in the fight to begin with, but I didn't take anything LCRW has posted as being done in a fashion to try to cause damage. He

The contract was for one year. That’s why there’s no game scheduled for next year.

Ironton’s AD says it was a two year contract. He said if it was only a one year contract that they would have been compensated for this year’s trip to Pikeville.

Is Ironton being compensated for by Pikeville for the cancelation?

I was told they weren’t. I was told that the OHSAA would not back an Ohio school vs an out of state school. ?

I am a little confused on what part the OHSAA would have.  My question is, if there was in fact a two year contract is there any penalty for either team backing out of that contract, in the contract?

This what I was told when asked.

There is nothing to get back. The contract was for a return date. There’s no money made to get back. Our basic recourse would be to pay to sue in the state of Ky. I wonder who would win? It’s just dirty pool.  What I’m told, this happens a lot.

I'm hoping there's more to this than what's being alleged about Pikeville. Flaking on the back end of a two year deal - if in fact there was one - wouldn't be on-brand for the Panthers. They're not known for running from a fight.

Poor on Pikeville's part (if true), but assuming the info in this post is correct, this is dumb on Ironton's part. The contracts between schools literally have a line on it that allows for a monetary gain should a team back out. Why not fill it with $500 or so to have a little insurance?

Apparently when they get smoked at home by an out of state school they do.

Pikeville didn't get smoked!!  Did you watch the game?  It was very competitive until late in the game.

I didn’t but the final was what, 48-33, and didn’t Pikeville score with .45 seconds left in the game? That’s a pretty good beat down in my opinion. Overall, other than the win it was just a bad experience for Ironton with Pikeville from what I’m hearing from Ironton. I was told Pikeville wouldn’t even send pre-sale tickets for Ironton to pre-sale to their fans. That their fans had to wait in line to purchase.
