5A Bowling Green (5-1) at 6A Christian County (0-5)

The Purples head east along 68-80 to take on Christian County for the 38^th time.  The series began in 1967.  The Purples lead the all-time series 30-7 with the last Colonel victory a memorable 2010 Regional Semifinal win in Hopkinsville 14-10. 

More recently, these 2 were 5A district mates in 2019 through the 2021 season and last played last year in BG with the Purples winning 55-0.  I honestly feel for the kids of Christian County as it seems the inability of the administration to execute the published plan for merging Hopkinsville High School with Christian County High School has created a quicksand which both schools have had to navigate impacting their ability to “move on” to the combined school.  But to date, I really haven’t heard of any merging any time soon, so here we are another season and another 0-5 Christian County team.  I mean no disrespect to the kids, who I know are trying.  I just know the terrific teams of yesterday and wish those would come back.

Christian County Information

Well, there are no stats provided on the KHSAA website.  But focusing on the County schedule they lost the opening game of the season to a good Warren East team 55-6.  They played arch-rival Hopkinsville and fell 40-7.  They visited South Gibson County in Medina, TN and fell 29-18.  They came home and fell 54-36 to a good Murray team.  This past week they played Caldwell County and fell 37-6.

I know @tackle trap reported some good looking WRs for County and if they could get solid line play, they would possibly improve moving on through the season.  I hope so. 

Bowling Green Information

The Purples look to head into Fall Break with very positive momentum.  The Purples fell to Frederick Douglass to open the season at WKU.  But since that point, BG has prevailed over 5 straight opponents by a score of 235 to 52.  BG defeated Ohio County 57-0 last Thursday.  The Eagles have petitioned KHSAA to drop out of district play for the next 2 years.  This is a very good move (they had 5 yards offense the whole game and that includes the BG Freshmen playing).  This will allow the Eagles to build numbers and hopefully move to a better district for them.  Best of luck Eagles!  But it absolutely KILLED BGs RPI.  They were 6^th going into last week; they come out 8^th with a 57-0 win.  Wow!  And I assume more of the RPI cliff diving from a winless Christian County team.  So you may need to get your driving gloves Purples fans for this year's playoff season.

Deuce Bailey has over 1,400 yards on the season with 21 TDs on the year vs 2 INTs.  SO Nick Graham leads the Purples in rushing with almost 200 yards and 2 TDs on the year.  Seven Purples WRs have 5 or 6 catches on the year with 19 TDs.  That is excellent distribution of the ball and makes it tough to figure out who to cover.  Defensively, JRs LB Montez Trussell (44 tackles and 6.5 sacks) and DE Malik Coburn (31 tackles and 1.5 sacks) lead the way for BG recently.

Game Preview

These teams have played some terrific games over the years, but it’s been since the 2016 Regional Semifinals since Christian County has scored more than 1 TD vs Bowling Green.  With BG victorious in 5 straight games and County with a winless record, I just don’t see that trend changing.  I wish I was wrong.  Do you feel Christian County can come out on top of this one?  Score more than 1 TD?  Let’s hear it!

I feel like you could combine Christian Co. and Hopkinsville, and that team would still go 3-8. It's unbelievable what has happened to football in that area. There is an empty stadium. A school has been in the development for about six years now. Both schools have a new coach every year. It's just a nightmare debacle of football and merger management.

Hopkinsville has had 3 coaches since 2017. 
 

Christian County has had 5 coaches the last 5 years. 
 

Tough to build with that kind of turnover. Hopkinsville was in the semifinals in 2020 so it’s not that far away.
 

 

Bowling Green by as much as they want. Starters should be done by the first series in the second half. 

I remember Central Hardin playing Christian County in the first round of the playoffs last season. Before the game Christian County had every player running warmup drills before the game without helmets. It was bizarre and something I have never seen before in HS football. 

BG really wanted this and Christian County agreed.

Just tell the Purples to have an early week and send the JV team. Very upsetting situation at County at the moment probably even lower than what the hometown Dragons were dealing with during their horrendous skid.

Bowling Green wins by as many as they want Christian County has shown to be competitive but the Purples will be too much for them in this game. BG by 50+.
