Shelby County Head Football Coach Josh Jaggers has resigned. The Rockets have started out 0-5 this season. I've heard it's been a mess every since Josh took the job. I heard some players were still upset ove the previous Coach getting fired.

Shelbyville, KY  – Shelby County High School (SCHS) announces that Coach Josh Jaggers is resigning due to health reasons as head coach of the SCHS Football Team. The school is grateful for Coach Jaggers' dedication and contributions to the program. “I want to thank Coach Jaggers for his time, talent, and dedication to the SCHS Football program and our students,” said Dr. Josh Matthews, Superintendent. “He is an excellent coach and a great person.” 

In light of this transition, Mr. George Eskridge will step in as the interim head coach. Eskridge, who brings a wealth of experience to the role, has coached at multiple levels including high school, collegiate, and professional (Campbellsville University and Louisville Fire Arena Football, AF2).

Before his tenure at Campbellsville, Eskridge spent four successful years with the Louisville Fire, an Arena Football AF2 team, where he served as Special Teams Coordinator and coached Fullbacks and Linebackers. Under his leadership, the Fire achieved a record of 41-30 and made three postseason appearances, culminating in the 2005 American Conference championship and a spot in the Arena Cup.

Eskridge's coaching accolades continued at Campbellsville, where he played a key role in securing two Mid-South Conference West Division titles. He was also active in the track and field program, where he helped coach multiple champions and All-Americans.

A graduate of the University of Louisville, Eskridge's coaching journey includes 12 years of experience as a high school assistant coach at Louisville Eastern High School and North Hardin High School.

"We are excited to have Coach Eskridge step in during this transition," said SCHS Principal Dr. Carla Kent. "His extensive coaching background and proven track record will be invaluable to the students on the team as we move forward. We want our SCHS Football program to continue to grow."

We look forward to welcoming Coach Eskridge's leadership and we are eager to support the team as they continue to build on the program at Shelby County High School.

The mess at Shelby County definitely pre-dates Jaggers' arrival as football coach, though. It started when the administrators got the wild idea to axe head coach Todd Shipley after 2 decades on the job in order to try to find someone better for the task. They hired Marcus Harris from the middle school program and then ended up also firing Harris a few seasons later...and he promptly had a monumental blowup in the school when he found out he was being fired and ended up being escorted off campus in front of student cell phone cameras.

And you're correct about students being upset over the Harris being fired. Numerous football players - including current juniors and seniors on the team - staged a protest and walk-out from school two days after Coach Harris was fired. And it hasn't helped things at all that Coach Harris, who is currently on the coaching staff at WEB DuBois, has showed up at Shelby County games and made a visible presence to his past Shelby players this season when DuBois was playing on Saturday and when they've been off on their bye week.

I'm assuming Coach Eskridge knows what is involved in taking the interim job, but sheesh, that head coaching job definitely needs to be posted with a giant "buyer beware" stamp on it.

I echo the sentiment that hopefully the health concerns for Coach Jaggers aren't serious and he gets it taken care of quickly.  I will say that I've seen both of the middle school programs that would feed Shelby Co. H.S. play this year and, top to bottom, it's rough.  I don't think the program as a whole is in good shape, which I hate for the kids.  Best of luck to Coach Eskridge.  Hopefully he's the long term solution, but he has a very tall task in front of him.

The Marcus Harris effect!  The gift that keeps on giving and will continue to do so for years to come.  The damage from the previous staff is immeasurable and will felt in Shelby County for years.  It's no surprise the way it ended with everything that was going on there with the previous staff, but the aftermath and apparent continued efforts to undermine Shelby County football is shocking.  Good luck to Coach Eskridge,  but this is a monumental task.

I hope Coach Jaggers gets everything taken care of with his health. In football terms, Shelby County was never going to be a region contender this season. This is a prime example of poor leadership from an administrative side. And who suffers the most? The student athletes. 

I'm not sure who will try and step up to the plate with Shelby County in 2025, but I hope they're aware of the mess the program is.  

As Marcus always says, "his story is still being written."

Should be a major red flag to anyone who would consider hiring him or anyone who was on his staff. #birdsofafeather

I think it all boils down to a group of parents thinking that they are more important than they really are. You are never going to please everyone so the few make it miserable. Why would anyone want to invest into a program like that!

Never forget the year he knocked off Caldwell at Caldwell and went on to beat Etown the next week. Great guy good coach.

He's had a rough go of it at his last two positions, first at Lincoln where there was a lot of fanfare and it went south quickly and this.  From what's been shared here it just sounds like he walked into a huge mess and I hate to see that from a former Danville alum.  I hope the health issues he has improve and that he can land a gig elsewhere (and this doesn't harm those prospects).

I am not close to the situation but Jaggers taking a year off is a thought too.
