Mountain Football 606 Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Mountain royalty meet in the nightcap of the 2024 Pike County Bowl. Johnson Central will take on Pikeville in a rematch of last year’s game that saw the Panthers win 21-14. Both teams are coming off disappointing losses in their opening games of the 2024 season. Johnson Central lost to Madison Central while Corbin knocked off Pikeville. Needless to say, neither team wants to start the year 0-2, so Saturday’s game is a must win for each squad. Who wins, Johnson Central or Pikeville? 1
ATLCat Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I won't say the natives are getting restless in "Johnson Central"... ... but there may be a few murmurs stirring in the shadows. I am not sure I see Pikeville running away this one because Johnson Central size negates some of Pikeville's biggest strengths they usually have, but I will say I would be a bit surprised not to see Pikeville win. 3
Paul Dean Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Is Johnson Central on the downhill slide after losing Jim Matney? 1
DevilMayCare Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 The bloom came off the rose after both lost last week. The hype is always better when both sides come in looking good. But don't tell the players that. They'll get after each other just the same. A game like this still carries a great deal of weight regionally. These are two of the few EKY brands that transcend borders. newarkcatholicfan Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I was at this matchup last year and it was a tough hard-hitting game. Pikeville 35-13.

Old606Guy Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 This one will be a dog fight. Pikeville replaces key pieces on both lines, and despite the rough look of the score from Corbin, are going to be just fine. Johnson Central is still trying to find itself after the loss of Matney. They do have some returning pieces in the RB stable, and size (as always), but seem to just be missing something. I expect Pikeville to win as well, but this game won’t be like the Belfry and GRC game. I think Pikeville’s ability to spread the field a little more gives them the edge in this one. Give me Pikeville by 2 TDs.

Chsrles Reed Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 I believe Pikeville wins this game, but it will be more of a task than last season where Zack McCoart, rb for Central was injured and did not play. On the other side, Pikeville's rb Brenden Anthony went out in the first half due to a collapsed lung. However, looking back to last week, the Eagles racked up over 300 yards against a good 6-A Madison Central team. Pikeville will be hungry for its first win of the early season after its initial loss to a very good 4-A team in Corbin, so imo this should be a hard fought and exciting close game. I'm going with Pikeville in a close one. Pikeville-28 J. Central-21
