This series record stands at 13 wins to 7 in Covington Catholic's favor. Coach Eviston is 6-2 against the Raiders while Coach Engler is 3-6 against the Colonels. Ryle's last win over the Colonels came back in 2016 when the Raiders beat Cov Cath for a third straight time.

Headed into this season, one of Coach Eviston's biggest tasks has been figuring out which quarterback to tag as QB1 from his loaded bullpen. If Friday night's scrimmage against North Laurel is the biggest key indicator, then we'll see Cash Harney starting behind center this Friday in Union. Harney spent half of the season his freshman year as starting QB at Beechwood, and then spent last year as starting safety for the Colonels in addition to being first backup to starting QB Evan Pitzer. The first quarter of Cov Cath's scrimmage on Friday gave the team some time to get any early jitters out of the way. Once they got that out of their system, the offense really kicked it into gear with Dylan Gaiser's electric kick-returning skills and their ability to pound the ball on the ground and quickly get vertical passing plays to move the ball down the field. Cov Cath put 21 points on the board in the second quarter of the scrimmage, alone. Besides Harney, look to see Dylan Gaiser, Logan Sanning and Andrew Bessler running out of the backfield, and then they will have plenty of passing targets in tight ends Nick Krallman & Tate Kruer, and wide receivers Luke Lampe, Donovan Bradshaw, Oliver Link, and Mac Cogswell.

On the defensive side of things, several starters sat for the Colonels in the scrimmage to make sure some pre-season bumps and bruises would be fully healed for Friday night's season lid-lifter, but Tate Kruer, Andrew Bessler, Owen Pitzer and Nick Krallman will be leading the linebacking corps, with Logan Sanning, Dylan Gaiser, and Oliver Link showing up in the defensive backfield and linemen Mason Dietz, Spencer Clukey and Jonny Lind helping stymie the opposing offense up front. The defense was VERY potent against the run game on Friday night, so the biggest question will be how they can stack up against Ryle's QB newcomer Nathan Verax and the Coach Engler's run and gun offensive style.

Current weather forecast for Friday is looking to partly cloudy with a high of 86°, and temps are on the rise through the weekend, so it's gonna be a hot one!

CWB - You do a great job covering the Blue Colonels in an informative and unbiased manner. You represent CovCath well!

I have not been to any Ryle practices or either scrimmage game, so I do not have much input about the 2024 Raiders.

I believe that Jr. QB Nate Verax will improve greatly from start to finish of this season. His ability to tuck and run rather than force throws into tight windows will be a key to offensive success. Sr. Landon Lorms is a proven and reliable receiver, one of the best in NKY. Jr. Dylan Lee is a threat and good playmaker at receiver. Jr. Jake Savage will be a force on defense and get a lot of reps in the offensive backfield in key situations. He is one of the top players in NKY. SR. Dillon Smith is a top-notch DE. The Raiders have many other excellent players who have worked diligently in the offseason. I expect a close game at Clifford R. Borland Sr. Stadium in Union. I'm not much of a score prediction guy. From what I gather, optimism about Friday night. 

The poll is currently 36-9 in favor of Covington Catholic, wow!

I think this game is going to be close but admittedly I don't know enough about either team, especially CovCath, to give an informed opinion.  Also, I think for either team to have a strong chance at winning a state championship they would need to win this game by at least three touchdowns for it to be plausible.

I don't think Ryle has ever officially done video livestreaming with the exception of 2020, when they were livestreaming games on the football team's YouTube channel. They have those games publicly archived there, and I guess they could have been just doing livestreams since then and then hiding the archived games after they wrap up, but I don't believe that is the case. Ryle isn't showing as being set up on the NFHS network, I know that much.

The last couple of seasons 859 Insider teamed up with Team1Prep to livestream some games, pay-to-plau, but I'm not positive that 859 Insider is still in the livestreaming biz. Their website doesn't show anything as of now for the 2024 football season. Then @859Radio always does a great job of hitting up the various NKY schools for coverage, but it looks like they're going to have their operation set up for the Lex Cath vs. Highlands game on Friday.

I'm not sure whether or not Ryle has their own audio stream for the games, but I do know that Cov Cath's Colonel Athletic Network will definitely be broadcasting on Friday night from the game - audio only. It's free to anyone who wants to listen: Colonel Athletic Network | Mixlr.com
