I wanted to give Greenwood High School their rightly due recognition for hosting what appears to be 2 super 7v7 tournaments.

Sorry I'm getting this out a bit late but didn't know about it till I saw the below flyer for it:

The small school tournament was last night.  As you can see, there are some local schools that entered their JV teams into it as well.

I didn't make that one, but am sure it was a very good tournament.

I plan to go to the varsity tournament this afternoon/night.  Should be fun and great competition.

40 Teams from 8 Different States - WOW!  Terrific effort Greenwood!

Hope they keep having this each year!

Lots of great matchups.  Tilghman v. Bowling Green should be fun. Heading up there this afternoon.

Campbellsville took the drive to Greenwood last night… Campbellsville made the Semi-Finals and were put out by DeSales… Good Night of working the passing game and defending the pass… Very organized night and well run event…

DeSales took the small school title, besting Logan County in the finals.

Who stood out for Campbellsville? I know it’s a 7 on 7 but eager to hear some information.

Was told Bowling Green got the better of them. Any other insight on the two?

What a Great 7v7 Tournament at Greenwood High School last night!  I've made the trip to Dalton, GA before and several others; taken my kids to tournaments up and down the east coast and this tournament was the most well run one I've been too.  Well done to Mr. Cary White and Greenwood High School!

All teams played 3 pool games and then were seeded for single elimination knockout style tournament.  I obviously watched BGs games but got to see several other KY teams quite a bit as well.  Things that stood out to me were as follows:

1. Paducah Tilghman was in the toughest pool by far, with BG, E St. Louis, IL and a very tough Fishers, IN (they ended 3rd in pool play and made it all the way to the semi's) squad.  Tilghman did not win one game, but they were in every game and competed very well.  In their tournament bracket game, they were forced to play E St Louis, IL again.  Not sure how that happened, but they fell 20-18 in a scrappy game where I was really impressed with Tilghman's composure as much as anything.  I thought the Tilghman QB threw a sharp ball, and they have some stud WRs too.  They will be good this year!  @TilghmanPride

2.  South Warren was also in a tough pool; losing close games to eventual tournament champ Maine South, IL and a second Brownsburg, IN squad, while defeating a solid Kankakee, IL team by 1 in OT.  Bryce Button looked good and his brand new skill guys (both WR and DBs) got some trial by fire for sure.  They fell to Fishers, IN in the first bracket game 28-7.  Can't wait for that opening game between Ballard and South.

3.  Owensboro Apollo was in a different bracket but looking at their numbers competed very well defeating Hendersonville, TN and an IN team before falling to a very good St Louis County Day school in pool play.  They defeated the second solid Brownsburg IN squad in bracket play before falling in the Quarterfinals to the tournament runner up Brownsburg, IN.  Very nice job Apollo!  @ApolloFan98

4.  Owensboro and North Hardin both looked pretty good to me.  Owensboro (1-2) and North (2-1) in tough pool play action met in the opening bracket game.  I got to see some of this and both teams QBs played well; but North made 1 more play than O and prevailed 21-14.  North would move on to play a very talented tourney finalist Brownsburg, IN and only fall 22-17 in a competitive game.  Well done both teams!

5.  Meade County - I admittedly know very little about Meade County football but caught glimpses of their games and I will say I was really impressed with their squad.  They had a few nice athletes and promising QB.  They went 2-1 in pool play; only losing to overall tournament top seed Belleville West, IL 18-13.  They earned the #5 overall seed for that effort.  Impressive.  They beat Crispus Attucks, IN 27-19 before falling to eventual tournament champ Maine South, IL 26-0.  Well done Meade Co!

6. Bowling Green - The Purples had a great tournament.  They finished the day at 5-1 and didn't play an easy team the entire night.  They fell to tournament finalist Brownsburg, IN in the semi's 17-13 on a last second TD pass.  Great effort by the Purples!  Deuce Bailey and company were good all night, but the defense really played well also, which helped them advance to nearly the last game of the evening.

Great Tournament Greenwood!  Hope they bring it back next year!

On to the scrimmages!

PS. Also wanted to give a shout out to my friend @Maroon Beech who followed his Beech, TN squad up.  We finally got to say hello in person!  Good luck to Beech this season!  Tough team!

Great tournament. Shout out to Greenwood coaching staff for a job well done. Pleasure to finally meet you Purple88! Hopefully catch a Bowling Green game this season.

I've been off the grid a little over the past few weeks recharging my batteries but the football itch is back and we are ready to dive into the preseason!  Great write up!  Apollo should be very solid at the skill positions.  Sophomore QB Max Johnson has so much potential to be a superstar.  If they can get any OL play at all, the Eagles should be a sneaky team this season.
