CovCath vs. Lafayette Game POSTPONED

Featured Replies

The game at Scott County has been postponed to tommorow night at 5:30 because Lafayette was not in school today.

How does this effect the times of the other games that were already scheduled for tomorrow night?

Is this the Toyota Classic?

Yes

The loser of this game would have played at 5:30 tommorow, so the game will be moved to then. I am not sure who they would have played or anything after that.

Is there a state rule in basketball such as the one in football, where the school district has to have school that day to have a ballgame?

Not a statewide rule but in Franklin County this is the case.

WOW, Glad to hear that at least one school understand that education comes first. Don't have school? Then you don't play games that night. Hats off to Lexington Lafayette, too bad other schools don't have the same guts to do the same thing.... Of course this is Kentucky so what would you except Basketball is first Education maybe a distance second .....

IMO if school was cancelled because of the road conditions at 7 a.m. but the roads are fine later, the team should play. Blanket rules, like blanket statements, are generally filled with holes. This rule and situation is one of those times.

Fayette.

Not just the school. It is Fayette County Public Schools. Thats Lafayette, Tates Creek, PLD, etc.

I wonder if schools are allowed to practice on days off school. I know when we didnt have school at Bell Co. we were expected to show up at the gym at 10am that day, and if we couldnt make it we had to call coach and they would find a way to have someone pick us up so we could be there.

I'm with this. There is no reason the game couldnt have been played. It looked bad at 8 this morning, but by 10 or 11 everything was fine.

It really hurt the attendance tonight and I'm sure Cov Cath isn't happy. I bet there won't be another team from Fayette County invited to the Toyota Classic again.

It's rediculous that they couldn't come. These blanket policies are in place so that administrators don't have to be bothered with making a decision based on the specific circumstances.

I could understand a cancellation if the roads were bad during the afternoon hours but most of the damage was done in the morning hours.

Student safety is obvioulsy the most important thing here, but a district rule like this makes no sense. It would have been more dangerous to transport a team in a steady rain than it would have been between Lexington and Georgetown this evening.

Let me throw this scenerio out. A Fayette County schools team wins the 11th this year. They are scheduled to play the noon state quarterfinal game on Friday but a early morning snowfall hits Lexington and area schools are cancelled. I guess the Fayette County school forfeits it's game in the Sweet 16?

I don't see that happening Sandman. I know things have changed since I attended HS, yes we did have some canceled games per school cancellation but usually only if the weather was bad after the 5am cancellation.
