Three Team Districts

Is distance and travel the only reason there are 7 or more three team districts in the state.

It's mainly because of consolidation.

The 29th is a 3 team District because Trimble requested a move to the 31st

Sometimes 3 team districts occur because the 4th team in the district doesn't field a team. For example, the 37th district on the Girls side only has 3 teams because Calvary Christian doesn't have a girls team.

In the boys 64th they only have 3 teams this year even though Rose Hill has a team and played a full schedule they opted to play in the post season. The 60th district in the 15th region only has 3 teams.

I know district 3 used to consist of Mayfield, Graves Co, Ballard Memorial and St. Mary but when three district 2 schools consolidated (Lone Oak, Reidland and Heath) into McCracken County, St. Mary was moved to district 2 because that would have left them with only three teams and St. Mary is located in Paducah/McCracken Co. anyway.

[2nd and Goal]

The 6th District used to include Providence High School.  When Providence consolidated with Webster County, the 6th became a 3-teamer with Henderson County, Union County, and Webster County.

The 8th region is an abomination with the numbers in Districts and how they got there.

With a revamp coming I would hope things get ironed out.

There's been some heavy chatter about an upcoming basketball realignment. I hope this is something that is fixed. With the influx of several private schools in recent years there should be enough schools to assure there aren't any 3-team districts, although as @rjs4470 and @16thBBall Fan both said, you sometimes have schools that don't field a team, making a 3-team district necessary for that particular year.
