Final from the Briar Patch.  Somerset led this one pretty much from start to finish. The Jumpers were you 10 at the half, and got the lead up to 16 at one point.  

Looking at the score (39 points for Boyle), I’m guessing Somerset was able to force Boyle to have to score in the halfcourt?

Somerset played zone and Boyle just shot up a bunch of 3s. I think Boyle went 2/20 from the 3 point line. Whitaker had a great game for the Jumpers. 

Matchup zone was effective, and as you said Whitaker had a good shooting night from 3!

I can aee them really struggling to score against a good match-up zone. And I’m sure it also served to slow their pace. 

Big win for the Jumpers.

Please remember that these athletes are first of all football players that just happen to play basketball. They just finished an undefeated season, ranked number one among all classes and 4A champion in football. We would all like to see that carry over in basketball as well. The fact of the matter is they don't always shoot that well and that is why you often see them struggle against a zone. They hustle, play hard and compete. They are usually fun to watch and a team no one really wants to play come tournament time. If they practiced basketball year round like some of the local teams do, I am sure they would shoot better and win more games. Most of these players play 3 sports and represent Boyle really well. You really can't ask for much more. Also we need to see how the season shakes out. No team has won anything yet that matters.

I think Boyle could still be a dangerous team in the tourney.  Quisenberry and Brown are the most athletic guards in the region and both are skilled as well.  Boyle is a team that could get beat by Lincoln in the district tourney and not make region or could get in region tourney and win a few games and neither would surprise me.  I don't think their roster as whole is all that great past those two players.

I don’t agree with this statement about talent level. While I can’t say they’ve come close to living up to their potential, I’d say most coaches in the 12th would love to have Boyle’s roster in this year’s 12th Region. Quisenberry and Brown aren’t football players playing basketball (as said above), they’re just better at football. But they’re also basketball players and are better than most. Turner is a very skilled player, and Seneca Driver is impactful on the boards and protecting the paint. I think that that’s a pretty nice group compared to other teams in the region. And if the team would’ve stayed in tact by keeping Hager and Bixler, their overall talent level would rival DCA.

I think they have plenty of talent for this region this year. But I also think they’re the most underachieving team in the 12th on the season.

The Driver Kid for a FR is a specimen.  They definitely have the pieces and competitive juices to make a run.  It would not surprise me in the least.  Pulaski Co. and Somerset are no slouches that they lost too recently, but athleticism wise not even a comparison.
