Class A state tournament

Featured Replies

Never doubted your devotion to this tourney, as I know you're a huge fan of HS sports. Curious if CCH were to drop in enrollment for some unforseen reason and qualify for the All "A" and then win it, would you feel differently about the title?? :D Or if the stars suddenly aligned and CovCath had their career team, which was designated #1 in the country by USA Today; would you not promote them as "National Champs", although the KHSAA doesn't recognize their polls????

BGGreen, I realy don't want to take anything away from the All "A" Classic, I just don't like how some what to call it a State Tourney. I even said why and gave my reason as to not call it a State Tournament (and MS liberty showed it to be very true) it makes many think it is a part of the KHSAA, when you and I both know that the KHSAA will never have a "All small school tourney"... Why not be happy with wining a very good tournamnet called the All "A" Classic?:D

I think top picks would be BB, UHA, and JBS can't go wrong with any one of those three.....

Don't know what to expect from western part of state UH maybe but the 9th and 10th region teams look strong with the 8th region as the sleeper.

Sad thing is the luck of the draw has all 3 bunched together.

Yes, I realized that, but one of those three will come out the winner.....:thumb:

Very tough first round draw with 9th winner vs. 10th? Somebody from NKY going home early.

Very true but my guess is whoever wins this game is going to be playing in the finals and very possibly be the state champ.

The All A Classic is a state tournament ... for smaller schools. Believe me, the participating schools treat it like a state tournament.

University Heights will walk through their region and will meet the 1st Region champ in the first round. If Mayfield, the #1 seed, wins the 1st Region, they have the talent, coaching and style of play that could knock off UHA on the right night. Heath could turn the trick, too.

The state tournament is wide open ...

Yes they do.

We have the signs in Harlan County to prove it. Cumberland and Harlan have both won All "A" Classic "state championships."

I would think Brossart would be one of the faves, they always show well in the AllA.

OK pet peeve of mine....... Up on the Soapbox.....

I just wish people wouldn't say it is a State Tournament. It is the All "A" Classic. It is not even a "A" class State Tournament in the same manner that the Sweet Sixteen is The State Tournament. The All "A" Classice is not any different than the 5th/3rd Classic, or the AIT, or even the Kentucky Preps Plus Classic.... What it is is a very good Tournament that is only played by smaller schools, and not even "A" size or "A" class size, schools. While it is a very good tournament it isn't a State Tournament.......

Off soap box......

I don't know. Call it what you will, but the way it begins with 16 different regional tournaments and then eventually one tournament with the winner of each respective region playing, with no out of state teams involved, and every team that meets the enrollment max is elligible to be in it, then it sure sounds to me like a 'state tournament' for small schools. It may have begun as some sort of invitational tournament in Northern Kentucky, but it certainly has evolved into something much more than that. Sounds a bit ridiculous to debate the point but it's so much more than just an invitational tournament. It's also a great way to keep the Sweet Sixteen pure without dividing the state into 3 or 4 classes with 3 or 4 different state tournaments, but also give the small or smaller schools an opportunity to compete in a very state tournament like tournament. With your line of thinking, perhaps the Sweet Sixteen Tournament is not really a state tournament either. Maybe it's simply just the 'Sweet Sixteen' and since the 16 teams that are in it are usually not rated 1-16 in the state then perhaps it's not truly a state tournament at all and that it's all just bogus anyway. In the end though, I kind of like to consider both tournaments as 'STATE TOURNAMENTS' and I kind of think that all teams involved do too. Since you are a complete minority in your way of thinking (kudos for individual thinking and I applaud individual thinking) no matter what the official name of it is, if it looks like a bird and it flies like a bird, then it's probably a bird and it's not likely to be a plane or superman. :p

Whats tho Old saying "Old Guy" "If it walks like a duck & quacks like a duck then it is a duck" I understand your comments but it will always be the Class A State Tournament. As far as favorites I'll say UHA & BB, I would give Elliott or Paintsville if they win the 15th just as good a shot as JBS. Plus JBS has to get by Hazzard in the 14th.

Go upper bracket in the All 'A' State tournament.

Brossart should and probably will win the tournament.

Maybe someone should start another thread about classifying the schools. I would love to get into a discussion on that, but it might offend too many proud kentuckians about their coveted sweet sixteen.
