Class A state tournament

Featured Replies

Any predictions?

Id love to see Brossart win it. 10th region looks really good this year.

OK pet peeve of mine....... Up on the Soapbox.....

I just wish people wouldn't say it is a State Tournament. It is the All "A" Classic. It is not even a "A" class State Tournament in the same manner that the Sweet Sixteen is The State Tournament. The All "A" Classice is not any different than the 5th/3rd Classic, or the AIT, or even the Kentucky Preps Plus Classic.... What it is is a very good Tournament that is only played by smaller schools, and not even "A" size or "A" class size, schools. While it is a very good tournament it isn't a State Tournament.......

Brossart is having a good season. I think that they have a great shot at winning it.

Up on the common sense box......

for you rr80 prediction: It will be a mountain team

It is the touchtone ALL A classic. BUT it is different than 5/3, AIT, etc. Every class A school in the state of Ky is not invited to th 5/3 or AIT. Every class A school in the state is invited to the Touchtone All A Classic. Common sense would tell "me" anyway it is a statewide tournament consisting of All A school's in every region. Therefore it could be considered an ALL A state tournament even though it is not sponseredby the K.H.S.A.A. and to me will always be The ALL A Classic state tournament!!!!!

Well said ( just wish the private schools would stay out ) A mountain team would be nice.

Old guy, while we agree on most things; we're going to differ here. The All "A" IMO is a legit opportunity for the smaller schools to shoot for a "state championship", since the Sweet Sixteen is most times an unattainable goal for the "little guys". I realize the KHSAA's stance on this, but that may be because they didn't think it up?? I'm not going to turn this into a discussion on "classified" vs. "single class" hoops; but facts are facts, and the "Hoosiers" stories are few and far between!!

Is an All "A" title any less important than a 3-A football title?? Are any of the "Class" victors really champs since they didn't beat the others?? Could CCH have beaten Trinity this year? Since they didn't, does that mean there not the "Real state Champs"?? Could NCC beat CCH this year.......... Does this diminish their title??--I think not!! Trust me there's no small school out there that wouldn't trade an All "A" title for a Sweet Sixteen title; but let the small schools have their fun and compete for a "State Title" even if it may be mythical at this point, especially on the eve of the tournament!!

PS: Did the mythical nature of the NCAA 1-A football title diminish from Florida's recent victory??

Your comments couldnt be farther from the truth. You can't compare the All A to a 5th/3rd because the 5/3 has a small number of schools that are involved and by invitation only. Did you know that 55% of all high schools in KY participate in the ALL A. This number keeps increasing each year due to decreased enrollments in the public schools. It may not be a state tourney to you but to the kids that work for months to get the opportunity to play there it means alot to them. This is like saying that the A class in football is not a real class final even though a much smaller number of schools in this. JMO

Why? You do know how this Tournament was started don't you, or the History? Opps, Dam those private school, always getting into the way, even when they were a larger part of starting it all..........

The groundwork for the Kentucky All-A-Classic was formed in 1980 through the efforts of coaches like Stan Steidel of Dayton, Father Ed Heile of Covington Latin, Bill Frey of Covington Holy Cross and others. The inception of a small school basketball tournament began in January of 1980. The first Class "A" Tournament was held at Holy Cross High School in Latonia with eight teams. In 1981 it moved to Bellevue with ten teams, all from Northern Kentucky.:D

And Oh, btw, the All "A" Classice includes more than just "A" class schools. The committe of the All "A" Classic comes up with the nubers, and it is different than the KHSAA numbers of "A" Schools. It is a great tournament....... that I will agree with.....

Why don't you get some folks together and start the "All Mountain Team Tourney" then?? Be happy the mostly private school folks who founded this tourney and nurtured it though it's infancy, decided to invite ALL the small schools to participate!! They could have outlawed "mountain teams"?? :D

BGGreen, I love the All "A" Classic...I wrote last year that when the new Bank of Kentucky Arena opens at NKU, I would love to see it come back home to Northern Kentucky to honor those men and women back in the 80's that had the foresight to start something so wonderful. My problem (or my pet peeve) is by calling it a state tournament, many like "Ms Liberty" somehow forget it isn't run by the KHSAA but by hard working dedicated men and women who have nothing to do with the KHSAA. When people call it a state tournament most think of it as a KHSAA event, which it is certainly is not....

BTW. my Dad worked for Father Heile Dad, so I knew Father Heile quite well....

I think either Paintsville of June Buchanan have a great shot if they get there.

Never doubted your devotion to this tourney, as I know you're a huge fan of HS sports. Curious if CCH were to drop in enrollment for some unforseen reason and qualify for the All "A" and then win it, would you feel differently about the title?? :D Or if the stars suddenly aligned and CovCath had their career team, which was designated #1 in the country by USA Today; would you not promote them as "National Champs", although the KHSAA doesn't recognize their polls????
