To schools out there that have turf fields, where did you get your funding? If you don't want to post on the board you can PM me. Did your schools do most of the funding or private donations?

There is a place (Turf Solutions) that help you get a grant from Frankfort. They then will come in and do the work. It is set up where the grant will pay the majority then the school board, boosters, fund raisers, etc will pick up the rest. If I'm not mistaken, YOUR part can be set up on a 2 or 3 year plan as well. I believe the school part will be about 15-20% of the total. Example would be a $40,000.00 project would cost the school $8,000.00. I am not 100 % on the percentage but I think it's close. Hope this helps. Might want to try looking at some local coal companies. I think this is how Belfry got some of their money for the new stadium.

Let me give you a hint on the cost of a Turf Field, $600,000 is what Beechwood paid for their field but this does have a track around it that isn't even regulation. I would guess the field alone is at least $450,000.

 

Who in Frankfort is this grant coming from, the state of KY? I wish Beechwood would have known this prior to putting their field in.

I hear it may be in Ashland's not so distant future also.

It is very nice. But throughout the season the bermuda takes a beating. Especially near the end of the season once it gets cold and wet. At one point this past season they were going to have a helicopter hover over the field in an attempt to dry it, it was so sloppy. They decided against it so the game was postponed till the next day and the field was still a mess. That's when the talk of field turf became more serious.

 

I love the natural surface at Putnam, but IMO field turf is where it's at. I expect that in 10 years, most schools will have it. Another thing is that Putnam gets painted before every game, where field turf would likely only have to be painted once a season. I know paint isn't that expensive, but it would still be money saved in the long run.

I don't read the orig ? as meaning Bermuda turf! I took for granted they are speaking of artificial turf.

The prices I have seen were from around 450,000 to 850,000.

Could somebody start a list of teams with turf and if possible how they paid for it?

In NKY, Beechwood, CCH, Dixie, Highlands and Newport/NCC all have turf fields.

I think that funding plan with the grant is over, run out of money.
