Rams sit at the #1 team in Class 1A. Rams sit at 3-2 on the seasons with losses to Ashland and Highlands. Raceland is coming off a thrashing of Newport Central Catholic 40-14 last week. Rams will make their 3rd big time road trip this season with already having traveled to Letcher County and Pikeville. Now the Rams will head to Hazard for this weeks game. Rams will be heavily favored in this one.

Hazard sits at 1-5 on the season and just haven’t been competitive in the last 3 games and having running clocks put on them. Max Pelfrey should be back for this matchup after having to sit for two weeks with an ankle injury. Hazard had some great effort last week against Corbin in a blow out loss, but it’s something that hasn’t been there since the Paris game. Hazard will hope that same energy carries over for the rest of the season. 

Does Raceland put the 4th running clock on Hazard this season? Does Hazard keep it respectable and maybe pull an upset?

I think it’s just a numbers thing for them right now. When a class A school has a class or two with bad numbers then you expect a bad year here and there. From what I hear their junior high teams are good so they’ll be back on too soon.

Just five seniors this year. Numbers, a tough schedule, and losing their top skill people from last year has left them vulnerable this season. Losing Max Johnson, in particular, was big. He was probably the best two-way player in 1A last season, even though Raceland did a great job neutralizing him in the playoffs.

I'm a big fan of Hazard, I remember some great games with them back-in-the-day.  I know they will rebound and be fighting for the top of the class real soon.

But, this year, I think Raceland will get the win.  I think Raceland will get up early and then start working on some things they need to polish for the coming weeks.  Like the Ashland, Letcher County, Pikeville, Highlands and NCC games, the Rams for making deposits in the bank they can cash in during the playoffs.  The district games position you in the playoffs, but the out-of-district games decides how well you do in the playoffs.

Hazard had some really good classes coming up. They have an excellent 7th/8th grade team this year who finished the regular season 10-0. So hazard will be young again next season but will have quite a bit of talent. 
 

Raceland needs to come out early in this game and make a statement. They need to not come out flat and let Hazard get any confidence. Hazard had their best effort last week in the beating by Corbin. Hazard just needs to hope the offense can do something. Defensively they aren’t bad, just can’t be on the field like they have been all season. But the good thing it’s getting later in the season and things should be slowing down for some of those young kids playing.

 

Ram are u coming to the game? If any Raceland fans want to meet up and chat at the game I’m opening to talking some football.
