What is the most Bush League thing you have ever witnessed in a High School girls game?

  • Author

I remember this thread a while back on the Boys forum, I was just wondering what people have seen in the world of high school girls basketball

The most bush league thing that I have ever witnessed at a girls game was at the 2003 38th district tournament held at Campbell County High School. I might need some help with this, but maybe Ladiesbballcoach can help. It was a semi-final game(the winner would go on to regionals) between Campbell County and Pendleton County.

In the closing seconds of the game Campbell was leading 62-60. Somehow the ball went out of bounds off of CC and I think(if I remember correctly) there was either 0.1 or 0.0 seconds left. I don't know how there was 0.0, but the horn never sounded. So PC had to go the length of the floor with practically no time on the clock, down by two.

A PC player launched a one armed pass to senior forward Megan Wood behind the three point line. She turned around and made it. The crowd absolutely goes nuts. The horn still doesn't sound and the officials finally blow their whistles to end the game(because you can't make a shot under 0.3 seconds). If the shot would have counted, PC would have won 63-62, but it didn't and Campbell Counthy went on to win the district, the 10th region and lose to Betsy Lane in the first round of the state torunament.

I'm not saying that Pendleton County should have won that game, but the ending was definitely BUSH LEAGUE.

We need to be mindful of the rules when replying in this thread. It will be watched.

I recently witnessed a game in the 10th region where a team was up double digits in points with 10 seconds left to go in the game and got a break out layup with like 3 seconds left on the clock and scored on the layup to extend the lead out further for the final margin. My thoughts are this, circle the dribble back out and let the clock run out. Just my thoughts.

PRESSROW, I would agree with you in 90% of the circumstances, but if the game was a blow out I assume that the winning team had its second or even third string playing. If a kid that never gets any varsity clock has a chance to score in a game, I don't fault them for doing so even if up by a large margin. That being the case, if the scorer was a regular starter I agree that it would show better sportsmanship by dribbling out the clock.

I witnessed a game a few years back where a 10th region girls power was beating another 10th region girls team that was not considered a power by any means by 50+ points. At the end of the 4th quarter when the winning team got to 98 points they started keeping one and two girls back on their offensive end so they could try and reach the century mark w/an easy outlet. They also pressed for most of the evening and was running a trapping defense in the 4th quarter trying to get steals. It was a disgusting thing to watch and I felt terrible for the team that was losing, it was a complete slap in their faces. I knew one of the refs in that game very well and he told me he had never seen anything like it in his 20+ years of reffing.

I agree with your response but this was not the case as the starters were still out on the floor. If a kid is out on the floor and doesn't get a lot of clock normally then I wouldn't think too much of that instance, but starters were still on the floor. Anyhow I think we agree on this issue. Thanks for your response.

Actually game was tied at 60 with 0.0 seconds on the clock. Lindsay Bray had a putback and the referee blew their whistle to call a foul. But Lindsay Bray doesn't go to the basket but Maria Sparks does which was the first person to shoot the ball and missed. VERY LATE WHISTLE since the whistle came AFTER Lindsay had rebounded Maria's missed shot and went back up for the shot. She made both to put CC up by 2 with 0.0 seconds on the clock. As Bird mentioned the horn NEVER EVER SOUNDED. At no time did the horn go off. I believe it was not turned on when the game was started.

The call to disallow Megan's miracle 3 pointer was a good call. You can't catch and shoot with under .3 seconds. It can only be a tip. They got that one right.

I was at a game this past weekend where the official scorer was telling the referee that the visiting team had two TOs left.. The home team calls a TO and she marks it as the visiting team calling it... The visiting team calls a 30 second and the ref tells the coach you have called your last time out... After a discussion the RadioMan (THANKS by the way) stepped up and said the visiting team still had one and the official scorer made a mistake... She was trying to get the visiting team out of TOs. Now thats Bush League.

I would bet the nail of the small toe on my left foot, I can name the school of the 10th region girls' power.

But I like BGP, don't want to be suspended and will not.:p

If it is the game I am thinking of, the final was about 100-21. That is really pathetic! But like everyone says what goes around comes back around and that team lost to a state powerhouse 102-58 on their own court.
