The Bullitt Central Cougars will take the short 10 mile trip down Hwy 44 to Mt. Washington for the annual renewal of "The War" on Friday.  Bullitt Central comes into the game fresh off their 1st victory of the season, a 7-0 win over Garrard County, sealed by a 103 yard INT return.  The Cougars have struggled to find their offense, having only scored one offensive TD this year.  Bullitt Central will be looking for their 1st win in the series since 2018.

The Chargers come into Friday's contest after their 59-14 win over county rival North Bullitt.  The Chargers led only 26-14 at the half last week before scoring 26 points in the first 8 minutes of the 3rd quarter to pull away.  The Chargers will be playing in their home opener this season.

Can the Cougars pull the upset or will the Chargers roll in their inaugural game in their new stadium?

BEast should have the county locked down for the foreseeable future.

Is the 'Bullitt Cup' still a thing? If so, how long does East continue scheduling the other two? Any chance they drop one or both to continue beefing up the schedule?

Yes, the Bullitt Cup is alive and well, but I don't see it going anywhere other than Mt. Washington for quite some time.  Things are cyclical and you can can never take things for granted, but the programs are light years apart currently and it would take a lot to close the gap between Bullitt East and the other 2 county programs.  As far as dropping the other 2 schools off the schedule, that's a double-edge sword...plus the county school board pretty much mandates they play.  On one side of the sword, based on where the programs currently are, it is better for Bullitt East to schedule a couple of tougher opponents.  However, on the other side, the kids still very much enjoy playing the other two schools and it's still very important to some of the adults in the county as well.  Take that away and you'd have quite a few upset people in the county.  Even though Bullitt East won a 6A state title, believe it or not, you still have some people who don't think beyond being the county champs.  Hard to believe, but that's the most important thing to them.

I love that traditions like the Bullitt Cup endure. Regional rivalries are so important in high school athletics. The all consuming "championship or bust" mentality has chipped away at it.

Selfishly, I hope the Bullitt Cup continues. East can schedule around it, as they did this year with Woodford County and Central.

Still an hour before kickoff but just grabbed a new T-shirt !
