Huge News for JCPS Football

Featured Replies

Jefferson County Public Schools announced today a massive construction and renovation project for athletics at nearly every school. They will be installing turf fields at the following schools over the next three years:

  • Summer 2023: Central, Jeffersontown, Moore, Pleasure Ridge Park, Shawnee
  • Summer 2024: Doss, Fern Creek, Male, Manual, Waggener
  • Summer 2025: Atherton, Butler, Eastern, Fairdale, Southern, Valley

Nothing happening at Iroquois, Seneca, or Western at this time. However, it was announced each of those three schools will be getting a new building and their facilities will be built/remodeled along with the building of the new schools.

This is a great move by JCPS and the kids will benefit greatly as a result!

Finally a feel good story.

Great news for JCPS students!

You gotta see it to believe it. Just how antiquated the school buildings and athletic facilities are at JCPS, to be the largest populated county in KY.

Aside from Central and Ballard's new football fields, and the Valley basketball gym, the sports facilities in L'ville are baaaaaad.

Bad doesn’t even remotely describe the situation at most JCPS institutions.

It boggles the mind where all the money goes!

I thought Mustang would have more to say here too, as far as bad facilities go.

I’d add in Male’s complex, football, baseball and softball as well as Manual Stadium. Fern Creek really makes their place look nice w the playing surface and it all painted up (largely, if not all privately fundraised), Eastern has a nice, big, newer stadium. Their baseball infield (I believe) was just recently turfed, as well as Butler’s this year and PRP’s a few years back.

But, you’re right. I knew what you meant. These upgrades are way past due for the vast majority of the schools and programs there.  Extremely excited to see it!

The article also mentioned new or replaced tracks at some of the schools (not sure if they all have tracks) which will be a big boost for track teams as well as their communities for casual walking.

Great news and long overdue.

I still think Louisville/Jefferson County needs a centralized facility that could hold 5-10k for football, track and field or other events that all schools in the city had access to.

You need something for practice too. It needs to be done.

JCPS screwed up when they made their “Premier Site” for basketball at Valley HS.

A building of this type (actually BIGGER) should have been built in the middle of town and not on one end of town or the other. That way you could’ve comfortably held 4 to 5 thousand people for Regionals or LITs.

I for one do not trust JCPS to make any decisions that are best for all involved.

I tend to agree, although they could have built a Valley-like gym somewhere like Seneca which could have covered the north/east side of the county. Seneca is one of three schools (along with Western and Iroquois) to be getting entirely new schools in the next decade. Maybe they'll get a big-time gym to host the 7th Region events.
