I've seen some good players this year.  Travis Perry is the best that I've seen.  Congrats to him and his squad for advancing.

And man, kudos to Newport on some kind of a run.  Enjoyed watching it play out from a distance.  Congrats to those youngsters.

For the record, I'm just firing back at that big mouth for saying something similar to me in late December or early January.

I think what happened was that he went golfing last week when we had that quick spell of really nice Spring weather.  Played 36, his dome got badly sunburned, and he just wasn't thinking straight.

I so WISH that was the reason.  Alas, I can't use that as an excuse.  I really thought Newport could win, but they definitely did not.  I watched them 5x this year, and I thought their best was more than good enough.  

I'm now having crow for dinner.

After watching the game I would take Lyon County at least 9 out of 10 times against Newport, they were a better basketball team.

I felt like Newport would be feast or famine in this tournament.  Someone told me that they don't know how good they are and that could either be a good thing or a bad thing.  I never saw them in person.

I did see Lyon County play a team comparable to Newport (Ballard).  They controlled that game, for the most part.

Will Perry stay for his Sr. year and get to 5K points or leave for Prep School like others?

He’s already getting high D1 offers. Lyon Co will be one of the favorites in the state next year, and he’s playing for his Dad. I don’t see any way he’d leave.

Newport tried to slow the tempo and would chew up some time. But the problem was they would wind up making a lazy cross court pass and get it stolen or wind up with their guards launching long threes. The Wildcats have some good athletes but Lyon was just the better team.
