Selection Sunday 2023

Featured Replies

Selection Sunday is under way.  South region has been revealed.  Alabama took top seed there and is the overall #1.  Missouri is the #7 in that region from the SEC.  NC State hopped of the bubble in as the 11 seed there.  Virginia also there as the 4 from the ACC.

Very generous seed for UK, the selection gods were with them if they exist.

  • Example # 7,658 that conference tournaments mean next to nothing.

Northern Kentucky the 16 seed in the Midwest, condemned to play Houston.

Auburn the 9 seed there.

Indiana the 4 seed in the Midwest playing an Ohio team, Kent State.

Texas A&M in as a 7 seed.  Is that a bad sign for Kentucky?

Auburn and Iowa could be a great first round game. Of teams selected so far, I really like Utah State to make some noise if they win their first game. Rough draw for NKU with Houston.

Maybe so for the Wildcats, losing to Vanderbilt again didn’t help them.

I know I said after the Vandy loss that UK at worst be a 7 seed. However, after seeing Texas A&M being a 7 seed for some reason. Now I think UK may end up as an 8 possibly. I thought Texas A&M was going to be a 5 or no lower than a 6.  So I do think now UK may be lower than I expected.

Cats going to be 8/9 with KU waiting in 2nd game if they win?

With Xavier drawing a #3 seed, I would think Marquette is getting a #1 spot.

I guess we are drawing Purdue's bracket.

Kansas gets the 1 seed but shipped out to the West.

Arkansas gets the 8 there, so at least we know Kentucky isn't stuck next to them.

Gonzaga gets to stay out west.  Almost like the seed doesn't matter there. Weird to have both WCC teams in the West.

Kansas has to be absolutely livid.  Houston inexplicably gets the Midwest over them - with their site being in Kansas City for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight round - and Kansas gets to go out West with all the actual west teams.

Iona with Rick Pitino gets to match up with UConn.

So in the East, gotta figure:

1. Purdue
2. Marquette
3. Kansas State/Tennesee
4. Tennessee/Kansas State

For Kentucky, if they want a 6 or 7 seed, they better be hoping that Tennessee landed in that 4 spot. But I guess we'll know when they pass the 8/9 game.

Considering UNC wasn't in one of those at-large play-ins, gotta figure they're out.

Memphis at the 8, FAU at the 9.  So that would seem to lock in Kentucky to a 6 or 7.
