Woodford’s new turf at Community Stadium. Hopefully new lights will be added before the season and hopefully a new score board. IMG_9061.thumb.jpeg.c1b7b9cc430da803650af20f52d83db0.jpeg

Here's a great shot from Freeman Kelly Dronography of Newport Stadium...gives you an idea of how close schools like Newport, New Cath, Bellevue, Dayton, Holmes and Ludlow are to Downtown Cincinnati. All six of those schools are playing football closer to Downtown Cincinnati than any school in Ohio, with the exception of Taft High School on Cincinnati's west end.

We had Taylor County last year come in to play us. Their players and coaches kept talking about how awesome the stadium was and the scenery. It is a great place to catch a game on a Friday night!

Thank you for these @scottie2hotty.

I like a nice track and field facility around a football field.

Wherever the shot put ring is in that complex, I hope there's a memorial plaque recognizing Jesse Stuart nearby. The former high school record holder and All-American shot putter passed away last year. One of the nicest and gentlest giants I've had the pleasure to have met. He was a delight to interview.

Lexington Christian Academy

The rooftops of downtown Lexington are visible through the haze in the bottom photo. Nice, big, open campus with a lot of athletic fields and outbuildings.

Seems like a visitors lockerroom oughta be a priority so they don't have to leave the team they're hosting sitting out in freezing weather while their home athletes are warming themselves up in their own lockerroom at halftime ?

I was told last week that SD1 is moving that field to put in one of those water retention buildings. Was I told wrong? I can't believe 1/2 the stuff these guys tell me but was wondering,

I know SD1 is planning on putting in an equalization tank in for Taylor Creek to help detain stormwater overflow during rain events. (A lot of NKY folks are probably completely unaware that Taylor Creek is even there in the middle of downtown Newport and Bellevue, much like Willow Run Creek in Covington.) I'm not sure that they have chosen a definite location for that specific EQ tank, but Newport Stadium certainly would make sense, especially given the fact that the stadium has been flooded a bunch of times during significant rain events over the years.

The SD1 paperwork I read a couple of years ago had the Taylor Creek tank on the docket for construction after 2031. I'm not sure if it's going to be one of the large above-ground tanks or if it will be a buried tank. Louisville has several buried tanks in their parks and you can just restore the field right over top of the tank once it's been built. At the surface level they just need to have some air vents and access points to get down to the overflows and things like that, which amounts more or less to a little building the size of a shed. Total guess on my part, but I would guess that if Newport Stadium is now the chosen location for the tank, then SD1 is more than likely trying to work out plans for an underground tank option if they can. That way they don't have to completely buy Newport Schools out of the stadium property, and they can instead just pay the school district for the year or so that their stadium facilities are un-usable due to tank construction and then also pay for the restoration of the facility.

The other thing that would have some bearing is whether or not the Taylor Creek EQ tank is just planned to be a detention tank, or of they also want the tank to operate as an emergency pump station. The giant above-ground EQ tank down near 3L Highway and I-275 is a combined 10.5-million gallon detention tank and emergency pump station, and if that's the plan for Taylor Creek as well, then they'll more than likely have to keep the tank above ground.
