Cov Cath’s 15 or so point win over Great Crossing a few weeks back now looks mighty interesting.

What was the storyline here?  Did GRC have some kids out or did Great Crossing just play lights out?

Great Crossing has some incredible quality young players so they will be in it for a few years as they come around no doubt

I only caught the very end of regulation and overtime.  Great Crossing has some great size, and did a great job getting inside during the times I was watching.  The two appeared pretty even at those points, but GRC did have a solid lead earlier in the game, leading by as many as 12 after a 7-0 run to open the second half.  The game would have gone to double overtime if not for a mental error.  Great Crossing was up 1 with just over 10 seconds left, and at the line for a 1 and 1.  They hit the first to make it a two point margin, but missed the second.  Morton went the length of the court for a quick bucket, tying the game at 62 with just over 5 seconds left.  But Hampton committed what appeared to be an "intentional" foul to send Great Crossing to the line with 1.5 seconds left.  My assumption is that it was discussed in the huddle prior to Great Crossing's free throw attempts that if it were a three point game, they'd go for a quick two and then foul.  Then Hampton simply lost track of the score and fouled at the wrong time.  Pure speculation, but something told the young man to foul - just unfortunate he lost track of the score. 

CCH was in control of the whole game vs Great Crossing, was never really in doubt. I think they have to now be at #1.

CCH got GC at the right time, I'm guessing if this game was later in the season the results would have been different.  Both teams last night were at full compliment.  This GC team will continue to improve

While I agree that GC will continue to improve, CCH will as well.  I am not sure anything would be any different.  

CCH, while small, is one of the most physical and aggressive teams in the state and that will cause problems for most teams. CCH’s defense and rebounding lead to a great transition game on offense while severely limiting 2nd chance buckets on defense.  CCH’s bench is already showing vast improvements in quality of time and contributions.  This tells me not to expect a much different result should they meet up come tourney time.

It was close enough for most of the first half that I felt like either team could win it. It was tied at 11 with like a minute left in the 1Q, and then after the Colonels jumped out by like 12 or 14 early in the 2Q, Great Crossing came back and pulled within 3 points late in the 2Q. Cov Cath was definitely more in the drivers seat in the second half, though...I don't think GC was any closer than 8 points in the second half.

This win for the Warhawks definitely looks good for Cov Cath, but I think everyone knows that basketball, more than most sports, is about what teams look like in February moreso than who they beat early on in the season. Most basketball teams are completely different teams 2 months later in the season.
