How am I word-parsing? By defintion, there is no safe level of exposure to Class A carcinogens. The research on second-hand smoke (and estimates of the CDC) are all based upon high levels of exposure. You didn't tell anyone that in your post.

Sure they are. Louisville, a few years ago, wouldn't even look at anti-smoking legislation in restaurants. Once public opinion favored it, it's now banned pretty much everywhere, even bars.

I used to believe that. However, recent studies have presented evidence that the claims of second-hand smoke were greatly exaggerated. The real threat from second hand smoke appears to be far less than what has been previously claimed.

They said the same thing about the smoking laws of California, Florida, New York .... All were based on the same studies and all of them seem to be constitutional.

Is exposing children to those risks, basically without their consent, child abuse?

 

Do I think this is good? No. I think that educating people about the danger they put their children in by smoking in close, confined quarters with them present would be both more effective and less politically damaging. But if you answered 'yes' to the first question, the second one becomes pretty uncomfortable.

Hope it happens here too. And I'd like to see even more tougher laws about DWIs. I pass by The spot in I-71 at milepost 34 several times a week.

I don't smoke, but for crying out loud smoking near a child is not child abuse. Come on people, you need to see what abuse really is.
