The 7-4 Carroll County Panthers travel to Ft. Mitchell to face the 10-1 Beechwood Tigers. Carroll County started the year with 3 straight loses but have found their winning 7 of the last 8 games. Carroll County defeated Holy Cross in the first round of the playoffs 35-6 behind Zayn Satchwell’s 213 yards rushing and 3 TD’s.

The Beechwood Tigers defeated Trimble County in the first round of the playoffs 55-0. The Tigers are back to back 2A State Champs and are looking to continue the climb back to Kroger Field to defend their Championship. These two teams have not played each other according to the KHSAA website which dates back to 1998.

Have Beechwood and Carroll County ever played each other?

Yea they were in the same district back in the late 80’s.

Beechwood and Carroll County played in the middle 80's too.  Carroll made it to the state semi-finals in 1985 with a very good football team.

This isn’t even worth the price of admission. Tigers roll this one. 55-0

Well I will be there as I support both programs and have wanted to see this match up for years. I have seen them play in baseball but not football yet. I realize it’s a big mismatch but I know a bunch of the Panthers players and they will play their hearts out.

Some added info on Carroll County. As stated in the OP, they have won 7 of their last 8 and the loss was to Walton-Verona 28-26. The Panthers have been playing well and their confidence should be at a season high.

They are almost evenly balanced on offense with 1841 passing yards and 1578 rushing yards. JR RB Zayn Satchwell is #10 in 2A averaging 106 yards rushing per game and #5 in 2A in rushing TD's with 20. He has rushed for more than 200 yards in two of their last three games. In the game where he did not rush for 200+, SR QB Samuel Oldham threw for 277 yards and 3 TD's.

Carroll County is #8 in 2A in team scoring defense (14.9 points per game) and #9 in 2A in scoring margin (14.2 points per game). The defense is tied for #3 in 2A in sacks with 22 sacks on the season.

That all loses much of its impact though when we look and see Carroll County has the 4th worst strength of schedule in 2A, just behind district rival Walton-Verona. So Carroll County's district is weak and they have not tested themselves out of district. That is where the cleat will meet the turf in this game tonight. I believe we will get more proof tonight that every win is not the same - strength of schedule is more important than wins when measuring a team. This will be a test for the Panthers team in how their confidence will stand up in the face of adversity, which they should expect a lot of at Beechwood, by far their toughest opponent of the year.
