The university announced Monday that Harsin has been fired just 21 games into his tenure as the Tigers’ coach. The firing comes as Auburn is 3-5 and struggling at the bottom of the SEC West. The Tigers lost 41-27 to Arkansas on Saturday, giving Harsin a 9-12 record as Auburn head coach.

Harsin is owed a buyout of approximately $15.97 million, which is 70% of his remaining contract. Half of that is owed within 30 days. The buyout cannot be offset by taking a job at another school, meaning Harsin will get every penny Auburn owes him.

Apparently some of the boosters have money to burn.  I live near Auburn, and Harsten was an unpopular pick among many of the big dollar people who have influence.  His firing was preceded by the AD who hired him leaving as well.  They hired Mississippi State’s AD this week.

I think Auburn's problem over the years has been too many boosters given too much say in what takes place. I have no idea if hiring John Cohen will settle that any but it has always appeared from the outside to be an absolute madhouse of an athletic department.

I have no problem with Harsin getting every last penny. Auburn signed him to the contract; they were bidding against themselves to make this deal in the first place.

I hope they hire Prime!!!

Harsin was a weird pick from the beginning, having virtually no ties to the SEC, and spending all but 3 years of his career at Boise.

Agreed. His name has already been tossed around as a candidate at both Arizona State and Colorado. I suspect he'd probably do a good job at both places.
