I would say most of the trouble rests on Brossart's shoulders. I have seen them face pressure before. They had a lot of self inflicted errors in this one, especially inbounding the basketball (missed open guys). Brossart really seemed to do something good and do two things bad on top of that. Classic case of ONE step forward, TWO steps backward.

He had an off night because Mason Co.'s defensive game plan. It obviously was double team Troy Cooper and challenge the other four to score points.

Some BBHS fans thought that Darius cleared the way with a forearm/elbow to Uebel's chin. I could not tell either way but Uebel was removed from the game by the officials becuse he was bleeding. Still Darius is fun to watch.:thumb:

 

From my vantage point in the upper section on the Mason County side; I thought Darius may have gotten away with one; not that it had the slightest effect on the game. Play this game over in the 16th region and double the fouls would have been called.

Yes Brossart needed someone to step up. IMO, Kidney either needs to look to drive more or to assort himself as more of a scorer on this team.

This should be a reality check to Brossart, not that they are a bad team, but they will have to come into every game night and give 100 percent, they do that they will be fine come March, Brossart is a really good basketball game, one off night will not change that.

Maybe not losing to Mason but the margin is a little scary, but as I said before, they keep working hard, Mason will see a completly different Brossart team come late Feburary and March.

Brossart was very turnover prone last night. Again, I'll say that they didn't want to win this one. One quarter got away from Brossart (2nd quarter). If things played out differently in the second quarter people might not be too down on Brossart.

Setty - 6'5"; 160 pounds soaking wet. Deadly from distance

Miller - 6'6", 'nuff said

Middleton - 6'3". Has been slowed just a little with a bug the last two nights. More evident in the HC game

Pawsat - 6'3" or 6'4"; often defends the opponent's top post player. The 10 he scored in the first half vs. HC was an uncharacteristic eruption; although if you watch him in practice and warmups he seems pretty smooth

Scott - 5'8" (in his shoes) senior. His quickness; esp. on defense, will be missed next year

 

Top reserves: Tony Browning; 6'2" senior; Ethan King, 6'2" junior, Nathan Stahl, 6'2" senior

 

Don't forget Jackson Tolle, about 6'2" junior, around 200 I who think, who is getting more playing time. Tolle brings energy, strength and toughness to the game as do Stahl and Browning off the bench. The way Mason plays the three or four reserves will play a vital role in the remaining games.

I am not from Mason Co or Brossart but it sure looked like there was a bunch of fouls that were not called. A foul is a foul and should be called. :thumb:

Lest I be viewed as ducking commentery on the game, I would like to comment that we were beaten by a better team, who are the first team in memory to man-handle this Mustang ballclub, that I can recall.

 

We came into the game riding high, off of a great showing in the 5th/3rd Bank Classic and two dominating performances in earlier rounds of the MCIT. We were cautiously optimistic that we could compete with the Royals and had thoughts of bringing the MCIT heavy hardware home with us on Saturday night.

 

That bubble was burst in the first half when it was quite obvious that we were not functioning as in the past, and were unable to connect on the looks that we got, as evidenced by our 1 of 19 first half which resulted in 9 points.

 

We had hoped to at least make a run at the Royals in the second half BUT although we had regained our shooting touch, everytime we scored Mason County answered, especially Trevor Setty who knocked down three 3s in the third quarter.

 

Since I didn't get a chance to comment on the previous thread before it was closed I would hope the Guru and mods will allow me the latitude to defend ourselves from some of the comments contained in that thread.

 

As far as our comments regarding the officiating from the broadcast booth, those are strictly our opinions, nothing more or less. In our opinion some lack of whistles thwarted our offensive efforts early on in the game and we said so. Officiating certainly didn't cost us the game,nor did it keep us from connecting on the good looks that we did get.

 

Mike Code did buzz through the "nice game" line like a drag-racer, not pausing to exchange pleasantries with Chirs O'Hearn. He did certainly acknowlege him and harbours no animosity of any kind toward he, his coaching staff, or the Mason County staff and administration and only has compliments on how the Royals played and contained us on Saturday night.

 

Coach Code read some of the comments posted here on BGP and was visibly upset that the perceptions were that he didn't acknowledge Coach O'Hearn. He admits that his actions could have been viewed as such and is sorry that they were taken in that light. We lost a ballgame. Things didn't go as planned and I'm sure that Mike was in no cordial mood to chit-chat.

 

We'll put that one in the books and look forward to a better overall experience with the Royals next time out.

 

For now the Royals have earned their superior marks over our Mustangs and were quite impressive in doing so.

After all the hype on this game I was a little surprised in the out come. Not being a fan of either team just wanted to see a good game. I have seen Mason Co. play twice this year and BB this was my first. BB is a fine defensive team, to hold the real deal Miller to 10 points good job. I think Mason Co. is also a very fine Defensive team. The way they swarm to the ball is just unreal at times. BB seemed a little gun shy at times in the early part of the game. I don't know if it was being scared of shots being blocked or trying to get Masons D to over commit. I think a little of both. Off nights happen. I am sure both teams will have a great remaining season. Good Luck to both.

 

One more side note. The officals in this game let the teams play at times and at times seemed to control the flow. I don't think they were biased in anyway to either team. They did seem late in blowing the wistle at times well after the play was over.

Great game for the Royals !!! I need to see Clark play to see how they would compare with the Royals to indicate who is number one and number two in the region. I know Clark has a good team, but the Royals had a couple players not up to speed last night and still won very very impressivley. Of course the Mustangs are a better team than they showed last night as their earlier season wins would indicate.
