Its funny you say that freethrow about the 16th region. I coach in the 16th and that is exactly who I was referring to. Glad somebody else sees it that way.

 

As a coach I cant ague with a guy who says just what you did: "thats what I saw coach." Alrighty then, moving on. I had a referee the other night make a call then justify it to me by saying, "he's just big!" He's big, is there something that you or I can do about that???????? Hello.

You all need to try and officiate a high school game and decide after that ho w easy this high paid job really is. Its really easy now, with all the bleacher wanna be's helping you out by screaming at you. Us fans know the rules so well and we see the play from 80 feet away, I'm sure we are right and they are wrong. I'm sure the officials say,thanks for all your help guys.

I would guess that calling any high school game football, basketball, etc. would be much more difficult than most on here could understand. Most officials seem to do the best they are capable of and could care less who wins. I'm sure there cases where the calls are not 100% fair, but the majority of the games are not this way.

Instead of complaining about the officials, how about the players play the game like it was meant to be played and not a like the battle between the OL and DL of a football game?

 

How about they actually handle the ball instead of turning it over on every other dribble?

 

How about the coaches teach to play defense without it being a physical war forcing the officials to let physical play go or call 45 fouls?

Officials need to have control of the game from the tip and not take over when its not the 4th quarter. The game may be smooth until a certain point, that is when you make sure everyone knows as an official you are in control. The kids need to play, coaches need to ask questions properly and not scream and yell constantly. Games need to be decided by the players by doing what their coaches have taught them.

 

This is a iffy subject and can be an ongoing argument. So many officials don't know how to handle the environment in certain gyms with the fans, coaches, players.

There is an official that has called Deming JV games for several years that will remain unmentioned. I do not know if this is the official you are referring to or not, but he also calls varsity games in the general area. If the game is anywhere near contended within 2 to 3 minutes of regulation, he will make up calls all over the floor. I am not one to blame officials and have coached for numerous years without receiving a single technical, but this particular referee will call fouls in the closing minutes on players with noone around them. I would love to mention his name in this post, but I am sure that would merit a ban from the site. Feel free to pm me for more info.

I think that 95% of all referees go out and try to call the best game possible and wouldnt cheat the kids for anything. I have caught myself in the past screaming at officials at games and when you get home you realize how stupid you must have looked. Have you ever noticed that if you go to a game that you have no interest in that it seems the refs do a better job than the fans of those respective teams do. Boy it sure would hard to play a game without them wouldnt it.

I have only watched a few 9th and 8th region games thus far and the officials have been horrible. 2 man crews cant keep up and 3 man crews steal each others calls. I think most are frustrated former athletes who feel like now it is there time.

Now here is a post I like! Very true that 2 person crews cannot keep up with most games. Three person crews do not work enough three person games to know where calls SHOULD come from. Remedy this by donating or raising a few hundred more dollars for your local schools so they will use three person. That is the excuse I hear from my friends that still work. Schools are using the extra $40 or so dollars per game it costs as an excuse not to use three officials (well some coaches do not like it either, I think a post above mentioned that)!
